Yarn Along

I hope everyone had a relaxing Christmas. This winter break is flying by for me, I think it's because the kids are home and each day takes a different direction on what we are doing.  I've been having fun, but there has been little knitting and reading done this week.

I thought I would share a photo of my new cookbooks that I have so far flipped through-that's it.  I have seen some recipes that look really good but I haven't made a grocery list.  I'm okay with that.  I have plenty of time when the kids go back to try some new menus.  One of my goals for 2012 to is change up my eating and steer towards a whole food diet.

I am also reading Digging to America which is a really interesting read.  Every chapter is written in the perspective of one of the characters and what they think of the others in the book.  Some of the thoughts are critical but it's based on the person's own values.

For knitting, I am still working away on my Cold Mountain Shawl. I also started another wurm hat with the leftover Ultra Alpaca but I do not have enough yarn and I think it will be frogged today.  I am really disappointed that there is not enough yarn but I just will not wear the hat with what yardage I have.  It might be a good excuse to buy some more yarn.

Today our son is getting his wisdom teeth out so I will be scurrying around the town for the appointment this morning, picking up pain meds and of course the needed milkshakes!!

  4. I really do wish we lived closer Karen! I would love to sit beside you reading cookbooks, knitting and talking together.
I do hope your son is well soon. My husband had his wisdom teeth out last year and it wasn't too bad [for him or me :) ]!

  6. My youngest brother just had his wisdom teeth out(he is 30!). My children informed him that he is no longer wise. I love Heidi Swanson's blog and I have the top book. So much good food!

  7. I love that top cookbook - have it on my shelf and have used many recipes from it. I'm with you about trying to eat better for next year. After all the fat and sugar and too many times back to the buffet, I'm sick of the holiday eating thing. Don't recognize the bottom cookbook - will have to look that up.

  8. Stop knitting beautiful things that I can't help but add to my queue! ;)

Seriously - that looks beautiful. And those cookbooks look lovely. My sister gave me 'The Art of Simple Food' and I'm enjoying it immensely. I love the simple recipes that can be changed based on what is seasonal and local - I have a similar goal to yours for 2012. xo

  10. Yum. Hoping you'll share some goodies from your kitchen!! Shawl is coming along beautifully! Not the kind of knitting for the dentist's office, I bet! Hope #1 son does well with his "adventure" today!

  12. Love the shawl and those look like great recipe books. It is so hard to eat right during the holidays, especially when you are Cuban and New Years is coming around the corner. Could roasted pork somehow be considered health food? lol

  14. The cookbooks look very interesting! I'm looking for new recipes for the New Year to help us eat better. And it seems quite a few people are knitting up shawls lately....I'm feeling the urge to make one for myself! :-)

  18. Ouch, wisdom teeth! I hope it all went well with your son yesterday :-)

Christmas vacation is flying by for me, too, and I haven't had a chance to knit or read much either--too busy having fun with the kids :-)

Hey, my goal for 2012 is to switch my family's diet over to whole foods, too (great minds think alike ;-) I'm reading Eat Your Way to Happiness, which tells about how food effects mood and health, and how whole foods are the right foods. It's really good. I'll have to look for your cookbook titles at the library.

  23. Heidi Swanson's cookbooks are such a wonderful way to make a transition to more whole foods! I devoured (pun only slightly intended) her recipes in 2011, found myself making whole food substitutions on my own, and feel so much better for it! Happy New Year!
