Yarn Along

Another yarn along has arrived!  I always enjoy seeing what everyone is reading and knitting every Wednesday.  My knitting is still the same three projects.  I decided to only show one project in my photo which is my sprouts shawl.  I am over half way done and at first it was difficult for me to find my rhythm.  I tend to memorize patterns so I need not rely on chart reading.  Not so with this shawl.  It is just not something to memorize, however I have found areas that allow me to look at the chart a little less often.  I am thoroughly enjoying this knit.  It is my first shawl that is knitted from end to end in an elongated triangle.

For my other knitting that is not in the above photo- I am working the body shaping decreasing on my hawthorne cardigan.  This is my tv knit because of the miles and miles of stockinette stitch.  I am not complaining, just stating a fact!  I am almost done with Chart B of my periwinkle frost shawl.  I am over half way done knitting this shawl and I love this pattern! If you're in the mood for lace knitting, try it

My book this week is the same, The Kitchen House.  I find it a compelling read overall.  I am enjoying the book and the story line never stops evolving.  It takes place on a plantation in the late 1700's when slavery and owning people is the norm.  This book skillfully exposes the hardships and adverse treatment slaves received without the graphic detail (I am ultra squeamish).  But it makes me very very sad to know that events I am reading in a fictional book have actually happened.

  3. Your shawl is one of the most beautiful knits I have seen, stunning!
I have your book in my cart, but haven't ordered it yet. Is it super sad? I read Uncle Tom's Cabin a few years ago and cried my eyes out!

  6. Such a beautiful color and stitch for that shawl. I wish I could memorize charts too (haven't done too many as of yet so maybe that will change).

I agree about fiction books. I think reading Uncle Tom's Cabin is a must yet is it so incredibly sad. It was really the catalyst for so many at that time to begin to end slavery.

  8. I LOVE that colour of green! It really looks great. Your book sounds interesting. I think a good book can take us back and give a sense of how it was in a different time which is always a learning experience.

  9. It'a beautiful, Karen!

A friend of mine did the seven shawls, too. That Romi is quite the knitting designer.

  13. This shawl is stunning!!! Can't wait to see it finished--and it's looking like that day might not be far away!! Three big projects, and you are juggling them all!!! (As a 3 year old once said to me....Good job. I'm proud of you!)

  14. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. I always end up researching the topic further based on my reading. It saddens me so to think of all the atrocities humans can inflict on one another. Sigh - anyway the yarn is beautiful. I made a shawl with similar construction last year. I was fun to get the middle and begin the decreases.

  17. i'm super impressed by your ability to memorize karen. i am terrible with anything less than very simple. but i like having charts nearby, even while wishing i had a better memory!

  18. I'm a squeamish reader, too; probably one of the reasons why I prefer children's books over adult's!

All the knitting looks to be coming along nicely!

  19. I too am working on a shawl this week. I LOVE the color of yours!

  20. The sprout shawl is a gorgeous colour. Sounds a good name for it. Those stitches look like the type that need no distractions. Not a TV knit!

  21. Thank you so much for visiting me last week! Your shawls are inspiring - a shawl is on my list of goals but not quite yet, the patterns look a little intimidating.

  22. Looks wonderful! I love the colour!

  23. THAT is the color that just grabs me when I see it... now ask me how many things I have knit with it. Zero. Unfortunately that is not the kind of color you find at a thrift store or yard sale. Who would get rid of it?

  24. Oh that color is gorgeous!! I just love olive green, and that pattern!! ANd your book acquisitions, score!!! I hear you about reading historical fiction. We've been talking about slavery with the children and it's hard for them to understand that such a thing could have ever happened.

I am still reading Red Tent, and am laboring over the parenting book. I am sick of seeing it still up in my sidebar lol! I think I'm done with parenting books after this one, until my kids really throw me for a loop :).
Still plugging along with the sweater when I have time. I knew starting it now would be challenging with all the thing going on, but I was too excited to wait. I just hope that this sweater doesn't turn into "my first year long sweater"!!
