Yarn Along

I have made some progress on the baby sweater.  I am almost done with the first sleeve.  It's a top down construction by Elizabeth Zimmermann.  The yoke is first, sleeves, and then body.  Last week when I started it, I was eight rows in and forgot to do buttonholes.  Yep.  I started over.  I am so thankful that I thought of the buttonholes at eight rows!!!  My other knitting project in the photo is the forever Hawthorne Cardigan that I have barely barely touched.  I think I did one or two more waist shaping decreases, that's it. Not in the photo is my periwinkle shawl that I blogged about yesterday. Oh and I did finish the Sprouts shawl.

I was very eager to get into Rebecca last week.  So after starting the book I never realized how SLOW the beginning is/was.  Really, the first couple of chapters were not interesting and I seriously thought of shelfing the book.  I stuck with it and thankfully the plot thickened and our dear heroine is living at Manderley, and is properly being spooked out of her little mind.  Gothic romances are pretty good :)

I had a hard time getting into my book too, but like you I am glad I kept going.

  9. I have been trying and trying to get into Rebecca. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who found it kind of boring in the beginning.
I'll have to press on. I'm still in the first or second chapter.

  20. Please tell me ~ can you knit and read at the same time? I can't figure out how you are knitting all of this AND reading a novel like that! You must be able to do both simultaneously....I thought about getting something that will read a book out loud to me while I knit as I am feeling like a slacker here!

  21. Thanks for the baby sweater rec. I love the name - so perfect for this month. I don't own any Zimmerman books/patterns yet - maybe this should be the first! Lovely color choice!

  22. Your blog always makes me feel happy :-).

The colors of the sweaters and the book binding and even that bit of plaid behind look so pleasing together.

Rebecca is one of my all-time favorite movies, but I confess that I've never read the book.

  24. I love your picture, it is so pleasing to the eyes. Fabulous colours of yarn too. I started Rebecca and got about 1/2 way through before I got bored......so I skipped to the end and read that a bit. Seems like a good story to me, I think my frame of mind wasn't there at the time though.

  28. Ha! I forgot the button holes on my EZ sweater too, but I've just left it as is. Yours is beautiful. I love it without the lace...think I might have to try that in wool for a fall sweater. Beautiful colors too!

  29. Better late than never when discovering missed buttonholes!

  31. Oh my! I hate it when I realise that I have no choice but to undo rows to undo a mistake. Love Rebecca. Such a good novel.

  32. I love that rose color you are using for the sweater. hang in there... ripping back is no fun, but doing it "right" is so satisfying!

  33. Oh I LOVE Rebecca- both the novel and the movie. But you're right- it does start off pretty slow.

  34. Good catch on the sweater (I ripped out 10" on my husband's sweater once ...it's amazing how you don't repeat them!) - I love the colour.

So glad you didn't give up on Rebecca. It's always tough when books start slowly; you don't know if it will continue that way until you get a ways through. It is a great read!

  35. How convenient that you found an edition of "Rebecca" which matches the color of your yarn! :D
