Yarn Along

See that?  Yep, there is some sparkle in those socks.  Sometime last year I was shopping at a yarn store with my daughter and she picked out this yarn for socks.  It is definitely not something I would pick out.  However, I have to admit it is fun to be knitting with socks that twinkle-and the striping pattern is way better than I thought it would ever be.  Ravelry notes are here.  My other knitting project is the hawthorne sweater which I started in January.  I want it out of my project bag.  I am nearly done with the body of the sweater then it's on to sleeves!!  As I knit this I pretend I am knitting something for spring...Oh and I finished my Destiny shawl, maybe a big winter storm will arrive and I will wear it?  Well there is next year, I suppose.

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand is my current read and it is surprisingly good.  It is not your average romance novel.  There are many subplots that keep me wanting to read more about the village that he lives in.  The first couple of chapters were slow going.  But now that I'm about half way through, I like the main characters and want to know what happens.  Always a promising sign to a good book.

What are you reading and knitting?

  9. All the women at the yarn store I knit at on Fridays *love* sparkly yarn. I think they even ordered a new brand called llama sparkle or something similar (though I've no idea if it actually has sparkles in it). I think I was made to have boys - I'm not a pink/purple/sparkle kind of girl. (:

I do absolutely adore that brown up there, though. I've never knit with alpaca before (at least, I don't think I have). Isn't it three times warmer than wool?

  12. Such a sweet mama knitting socks for your daughter. She will love them! Yep the weather has been weird. We are at least back to seasonal around here. Other people seem to love it but I was a bit offended by August temperatures in March. One day you will wear that fab sweater. You're just on time for next year.

  13. I saw that book last year, but never read it. Will have to put it on my library list when I actually have more time to read. Sparkles are not my choice either, but they do make for some fun knitting. I'm sure your daughter will love them.

  15. Wow- sparkles! My boys have requested some strange yarn for things I knit them too. But it's good for a knitter to be diverse in her yarn choices, right?
