Book Discoveries

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I went to a university used book sale.  It was very overcrowded with many people and not enough room to squeeze through the packed aisles. I was able to shop anyways.  I lasted longer than my husband, he hates crowds (and possibly humans).  How does one push anyone out of the way politely?  Also if I see a group hovering over a section, I need to see what the fuss is about. The grass is always greener on the other side.  Every one knows that :)

My number one area to scan is the classics (not many people there!).  Once I'm finished, I go to fiction which has the crowds.  After that, I leisurely browse everything and anything.  I paid $2 for hardback covers and $1 for large paperback covers.  Please do not be impressed with the math book.  My son is a math major and it's for him.  I'm lucky I can add and subtract. Did you see the top book by Tennyson?  No copyright printed in book but my snooping around the internet is saying 1900ish printing.

  2. I'm so very with your husband when it comes to crowds/people. If there's a large gathering, I'm likely moving in the opposite direction. (:

Congrats on the nice book haul!

  3. I'm not a big fan of crowds either (I get it from my dad) but would have suffered through for books too. He might have also :) Those are great finds! The Tennyson is beautiful!

  4. What a great find! I'm happy to hear book sales are still crowded places :-) That's about the ONLY place I can stand large groups of people.

  5. My husband is the same way with crowds.
That is an awesome stack of books. Please let me know how you like Cutting for Stone, I have wanted to read it. Sarah's Key and Night are both really good, although Night made me cry.

  7. Wow! Those are awesome! I'm not much good with crowds anymore. I blame lack of patience. But for a good book, I'll deal with it.

  8. I love going to used book sales! I've been wanting to read Sarah's Key for a long time. I read night years ago in high school. It was very good although like Tracey it made me cry. I even wrote to Elie Weisel and received a letter back from him!

  10. there is a "little bit of everything" shop we go to about an hour away and last year i found a 1950's Girl Scout book. It was one of my most amazing finds, the illustrations were so very cool.

i've always wanted to read "night" but have been afraid it would be too upsetting. maybe i will try when my spirits are up.

i'm a dodo head at math, but the name of that book intrigues me!!

  11. What delightful finds! My husband has a degree in math and I still shake my head at the fact he married a girl who can barely remember her multiplication tables :)

  15. our husband should get together...they could grumble quietly in the car and shoot us looks as we lingered too long!

    your books look wonderful!

  16. My husband= hate's crowds.
Me= go see what the fuss is about, too!!
Great score on these books. I love the old classic's, too. And really old books are fun to just hold, flip through, and wonder who has held them in their hands before. So much history in the book, itself.

  17. Oh, Sense & Sensibility is such a good read. And you gotta love second hand books, especially when they're worth a few quarters...

  20. I love book sales - I have been avoiding them during my de-cluttering (still ongoing after two months!?) because I always find too many treasures to pass by.
