The Garden

The liatris is blooming and I'm so glad we planted it last year.  The butterflies love to visit.  They flutter about and seem to enjoy the blossoms.  I really love the purple color and I think it would make a superb sweater, right?

In the above photo, Frodo had to be in it, he is attracted to fame and the camera.  Whenever he sees me pick up my camera he is alert and ready to a) strike a pose, b) runaway from being photoed-probably a bad hair day for him, or c) accompany me outdoors which he loves to be!

Yep, that's his little body in this photo as well.  I've mentioned this before but I am so lucky that my husband loves to water and tend our garden.  I just document the growth, harvest, and cook, my kind of partnership!  I'm thinking of making some basil pesto and tossing it with some noodles. Yum!

Are you eating from your gardens yet?  If so what?

  1. Your garden looks great Karen. Our garden is almost finished for the season and we are getting ready for the fall garden which will be
planted in a few weeks. My herbs are still okay, but I'm not sure how much longer they will hang on before the heat gets them [or me]. I really can't complain, it was a good season and there is always next year.

  2. Oh how I love happy gardens!! So far we are gobbling up a lot of basil around here and waiting on everything else still. Cant complain though, pesto is the best! If you have extra basil this year, I head that it can be blended in the food processor with a little olive oil and then poured into ice cube trays to be frozen for later use! Hello fresh herbs in the middle of winter! Have a happy Thursday :)

  5. We have eaten most of the radishes. I just made kale chips which we gobbled. And lettuce. We've eaten tons of lettuce. Everything else is a little farther behind because I waited to plant the warm weather crops in the hopes that it would snow again (ha wishful thinking). But they are growing nicely and I can't wait for the first cucumber!

  8. Decided not to have my "garden of weed'n" this year and take break. I miss it though but not weeding all the paririe grass. I bet you will enjoy a delicious harvest- the basil looks so good...loving the little snippets of Frodo :)

  13. Everything looks so great Karen. We are eating kale, Swiss chard, strawberries, snow peas, garlic scapes and herbs from our garden right now. I think I will head out and pull a few beets tomorrow morning for juice. There are a few zucchinis that should be ready soon and lots of green tomatoes.

    Love your veggie beds.
