Yarn Along

As I sit and type this post early in the morning I am thankful that the lightening has not zapped the electricity, so far.  Our house is all electric and when it goes, my happiness goes :)  I think today is our last day of experiencing the remnants of hurricane Isaac which for the most part is overcast skies and occasional rain.

So my knitting keeps changing.  I started a pair of mitts that my knitting friends have knitted but I was not having fun with the pattern and fiddling with a cable needle and keeping track of where I was in the pattern.  I ripped that one right out and started a new pattern .  It is too early to tell but I do believe I am liking this pattern a bit better.  I am still working on my dad's socks and my pink cardigan.

I have started a new book!  Yes, I finished The Flight of Gemma Hardy and enjoyed it.  I loved how it echoed Jane Eyre but also had different plots.  It is worth the read.  The ending for me seemed a tiny bit rushed but I still enjoyed it and would recommend the book.  My new book The House at Tyneford is supposed to fulfill my emptiness of Downton Abbey episodes.  I'll let you know if it meets the criteria.  I just started it this week.  Stay tuned!

For all you knitters out there I have a free pattern here at ravelry or click on the pattern page on my blog.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  2. I'm thinking of trying a pair of mitts this fall. I'll be watching closely to see how you like these. =) I'm working on my Out of Darkness Mystery KAL (when I can squeeze in a minute or two) and a few baby things.

  4. We have the same issues with storms here and seem to loose power all the time. I hope you keep your power today.
I wanted to thank you for another great pattern and will be casting on soon. I think my sister's will be both getting a new cowl for Christmas, I'll just use different colored yarn.

  7. Ooooooh. Something to mask the absence of Downton Abbey? Please do let us know if it does the trick! (:

I read and enjoyed Gemma, too. I enjoyed the magicky twist with Iceland and the hill of wishes. I'm trying to get B to read it, though I'm unsure of how successful I'll be!

  9. It's amazing how dependant we are on the electricity, isn't it? DH and I were just talking the other day about how long it's been since we lost power - a sure way to bring on an outage.
I hope you enjoy your gloomy day with lots of knitting, reading, and cups of tea :)

  10. I love it when the power goes out....I know I am strange that way. I am reading the Outlander series and loving it. Still waiting to do that last arm on my sweater and finish half of my baktus scarf. Blessings!

  20. What pretty yarn :D

I'm just getting my knitting mojo back after a few weeks break to give my hands a rest. I've started to miss the click of the needles.

  21. I love that yarn! You really do have to "feel" a pattern don't you, or it isn't worth it. Thanks for the book recommendation, I've got it reserved now and it sounds like a good read!

  25. I, too, am missing Downton Abbey. I did, however, buy both season 1 & 2 on DVD at Costco and although I have already watched all of them, it is still nice to have on hand when I need a bit of DA after a long day! :)

Have you read Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey? I bought it, but have yet to read it. It came HIGHLY recommended by a friend who is a huge DA fan as well. I will have to look for the book you mentioned the next time I am at the library!

  26. What a cool purply colour that is! I can't wait to hear your comments on that book...

  27. Oh my goodness - that pattern is adorable & I *love* that yarn! I just added the pattern to my queue. (I should just stop saying that because I think I do every single week & at this point it just goes without saying.)

I definitely want to hear more about this book - it sounds like it would be my cup of tea… I might have to look it up in the library. (Do I say that every week, too?) When does Downton Abbey start again, anyway? I should pay more attention to these things so I don't miss it… xo

  28. I hope you'll get through the last of the lightning safely clicking away on your new pattern. Enjoy!

  29. That is a gorgeous purple. Adding Gemma Hardy to my goodreads as we speak. Another good title if you love Downton is Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey: The Lost Legacy of Highclere Castle by The Countess of Carnarvon. It's pretty good. Cannot wait until it comes back this winter!

  30. Reading mitts; that must mean the fingers are free to turn pages? Are you enjoying "The House at Tyneford"? The review was interesting. I'm reading "Lost in Shangri-la," a page-turner true story. On the needles are Sothia and the Triangle Shawl KAL among other things.

  31. There's a new episode of Downton over here this autumn so I'm sure you'll soon be satisfied again.
