Yarn Along

My knitting this week has been all about using up bits and pieces in my basket.  Last week I made a garter stitch cowl and this week I'm nearly done with this lovely hat.  The yarn is Malabrigo which makes it very decadent knitting :)  I have no idea who it will be for, maybe me, maybe a gift.  I finished the top last night while we tried not to watch the election coverage (we were flipping between channels).  I also started to knit some stocking ornaments that are not in the photo.

I am reading The Tiger's Wife and even though I am a few chapters in, I cannot give you thoughts about it because I really don't know what's going on!  I do like her style of writing and I do like how she switches her storytelling from the present to the past.  The reviews on Goodreads were very mixed about the book so I think my experience so far is on target.  I do like the book enough to keep reading, and that is a good sign.

So while I'm in my holiday knitting mode I've been dreaming of casting on a lacy shawl for me.  Do you do that?  Wish for other knits on the needles?

What are you knitting and reading?

  1. Karen, once again you have me drooling over your knits, and wishing I lived closer so I could raid your stash!
Yes,I do dream of casting on other knits, that is why I need a larger binder for all the patterns I keep printing out!

  4. Lovely hat, that yarn is gorgeous. Your garter stitch cowl turned out beautifully as well!

  5. Gorgeous hat! We were flipped between election coverage last night too - there are only so many times I can hear the same thing, in the same voice before it starts getting annoying. (And I am very much dreaming of other knits while working on what's on my needles. It's like crafting ADD.)

  7. Hi Karen,

I've just been catching up with your lovely posts that I missed whilst away and when I had no electricity. Glad to hear that your children weren't affected by the weather.

What a coincidence I've just made a garter stitch cowl to wear with my annabel...it's so cold here now.

I've just knitted the gauge for a pair of socks...the first of my stocking fillers...I really need to get a riddle on...I'm so behind this year. It's years since I've made any so I've chosen a really simple one to begin with and then I'll hopefully move on to fair isle ones. I'm looking forward to making myself a shawl too...maybe after Christmas...

I'm slowly reading a thriller I've been reading for a while now...evenings seem so busy that I just drop of to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

    Happy knitting and reading.

  8. Oooh, love the colour of that yarn. How about a gift for me ;-) xx

  9. yes, the grass is always greener...isn't it?!
It sounds as if you choose your patterns like I do.....I knit something because it appeals to me, then decide who might also like it!! I just can't knit something I don't like! (I can't buy gifts for people that I don't like either....makes it really HARD sometimes!)

I listened to Tiger's Wife as an audible book----not sure I could have made it through reading it. I actually really liked it--in its dreamlike fantasy. Not my usual kind of book. (Did you see Kate Morton has a new book out? I've downloaded that one, too, but I'm s-a-v-i-n-g it!!!!!---for what, I don't know!)

  10. What a beautiful color! I dream of other knits all the time. I wish there was more time to knit!

  11. I love that color! So dreamy. I need to add that yarn to my wish list!

  12. Your malabringo looks gorgeous!
I definitely dream of new things on my needles - I'm terrible for having too many projects on the go and still wanting something new...

  13. I am so with you on using up the leftover stash yarn. I have a reusable shopping bag that is currently holding all the leftover skeins of yarn from various projects. That way, I have it handy to make some charity hats or whatnot.

Though I would love nothing more than to cast on another sweater for myself, I have other projects that are more pressing, so I'm being a very good girl. ;-)

  14. The yarn is just gorgeous! I might have a hard time parting with such a beautiful hat... And yes, I do dream of other knits on my needles, along with more time to knit. :-)

  15. I love knitting with malabrigo - the process becomes so wonderfully tactile, doesn't it? I hope you keep the hat for yourself!

  18. I knit a cowl out of that same exact yarn (and color) and it is one of my favorites. So soft! I always do that - while I am knitting gifts I start thinking of what I want to knit for myself.

  19. Malabrigo is a treat to knit. I love everything about it, the feel the richiness of the color..
I read Tiger's wife last year and I had very mitigated feelings about it too. I saw you're on Goodreads, what's your username?

  20. <3 Malabrigo! That's an especially beautiful colorway, too. I absolutely daydream about other knitting projects during holiday knitting season! Sometimes I start one and just knit a couple of rows whenever I need a break from my other projects. :)

  21. i do dream of knitting for me. i've even started, but i pick up and knit for the boys who seem to need it more than i. it's a little chilly inside in the mornings and evenings now. still 80 in the day though.

  22. I've seen a lot of people reading the tigers wife so I'll wait for your final review of it, before I decide to read it.

  23. I am always thinking about that next knit I want to cast on!!! Love your hat....beautiful yarn!!

  24. Such a yummy hat!! As for wishing to be knitting something else, I usually have enough variety on my needles and hooks that if I get bored, I switch. My crafting monogamy does not exist. :)

  25. I dont know how to make stuff like that but I will surely try some time! Also, I'm not reading anything right now but I just bought three books from the book sale yesterday! I'm excited to read them! :D

  26. Oh that hat is going to be gorgeous.

  27. I have been dreaming about lacy shawls too. I have bookmarked at least a hundred patterns I'm sure, but there are too many other things to finish knitting first! :)

  28. Ooo, that malabrigo is so lovely!
You know me - I'm always dreaming of the next knit...

  29. Oh, that hat is beautiful! I love Malabrigo. I have two skeins of it in a really beautiful deep purple that I bought at a shop in Bar Harbor last month. I haven't decided what to do with it yet but I'm leaning toward a hat and a cowl for the winter… xo

    1. Oh, and I forgot to say - I'm always dreaming of what's coming next. I get a little impatient about three-quarters of the way through every project and then I can't wait to get on with the next one. I need to work on that… xo

  30. I'm not a great knitter, but I do know that Malabrigo is a nice yarn.
And I like that you can admit you don't know what's happening in your book. I've had that happen plenty of times. And somehow, part of my mind tells me that reading faster and skipping parts will actually make me understand it more.

  31. That purple is gorgeous! I love the richness of it! And I do wish and dream of other projects while I'm in the middle of one :) Keeps me motivated thats for sure!

  32. That yarn is stunning. Wish I could touch it. I want more wool in my stash!

  33. Oh and I often think about what's next while my current project is still being knitted.

  34. Love the hat, Karen! Whoever it goes to will be happy as can be, I'm sure :)

  35. sometimes if it takes me too long to figure out what a book is all about it won't be able to hold my attention. good for you to keep going, i'm sure it'll be worth it.
