Yarn Along

On Monday night I started a baby sweater with the same wool that I used for the fingerless mitts which I completed!  My to do Christmas knitting list is dwindling down fast.  But so is my resolve.  I still have three pairs of socks to knit for my family.  I think I can do it.  I have many more movies I can pop in and watch while I loving labor over every single stitch.  Anyways, back to this sweater.  It is the top down sweater by Elizabeth Zimmermann.  I have this sweater pattern memorized over all and I love how quickly it knits up with worsted weight wool.  Today or tomorrow it shall be done.  After that, I will be button diving.

I started reading A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg, who is an excellent story teller.  I've read this book at least twice before and it's a fantastic re read during the holiday season.  This will be my last holiday book read.  I am toying with reading Les Miserables before the movie is shown in theaters BUT I am a slow reader and I know I will not finish the book, there lies the hesitation.  I cannot wait to see the movie the trailers look fabulous!!

What are you knitting and reading?

  1. Love the Zimmerman sweater and yarn choice. WOW I could never get through one pair of socks let alone 3 pairs by Christmas 2012, maybe 2020. I admire your ability to focus and stay on track !

  2. Button diving sounds like fun :) I'll be lucky to finish one Christmas knit - someday I hope to be so productive again. Your book sounds good (but I shouldn't check if it's at our library until I finish something else!)

  3. I'm toying with reading Life of Pi before the movie is shown in theatres (starting monday in the UK!) BUT I know I will not finish the book, there lies the hesitation!
Another mention of the fabulous Ms Z in this morning's yarn along.... my willpower cannot last much longer, I must get my hands on some of her books!

  4. I love the color yellow for a baby sweater! If I am ever blessed with another baby it's going to have a yellow sweater....boy or girl! I've never made the EZ baby sweater. My go to baby sweater is the 5 hour baby sweater! I don't have a yarn along post today. Believe it or not I have NOTHING on the needles. That is a horror to Ree. She keeps bringing me my knitting basket telling me I need to knit! But with all the preparations for her birthday I haven't had a chance!

  5. I've not ever done that baby sweater---time to give it a try? I started Anna Karenina a while back---thinking the same thing. hmmmmmm. never quite got into it. we're going to have some great book to movie remake choices in the theatre soon!!!

  6. You can do it! I am in awe of your knitting progress and am totally rooting for you! I can't wait to see Les Mis either - looks really good...you'll have to let us know if you like it when you see it!

  8. Button diving :) that is a perfect phrase! The movie does look incredible. I'm sure it will take every award this year. I had to wheel and deal but our monthly date night will be to see this! Yay!

  9. Love that pattern. It's come in handy for baby gifts a time or two for me.

You know, you can always LISTEN to Les Miserables while you're crafting. I believe Librivox (librivox.org) has a recording of it. It kills two birds with one stone! :-)

  13. I love that you're so confident when you'll finish! My current shawl has eight rows left and I don't know how long it will take or when I'll get my next chance to work on it.

  14. I've never read the complete Les Mis, but I read the abridged version and really liked it. Maybe that'd be short enough to tackle before the movie comes out?

  15. Love that buttery yellow! I need to add a grown-up Christmas read to my collection - my read over-and-over is the Great Christmas Kidnapping Caper from my per-adolescence. And picture books with the kids.

  16. Hi Karen! Wow, a sweater! It'll be some time before I graduate from garter-stitch scarves... ;). That's a gorgeous colour, and the mitts are FABULOUS! :)

  17. I'm super excited for Les Miserables too!!! I admire your resolve to have finished the book once-- I've never made it through the entire book, so I totally understand not wanting to try it in such a short amount of time.
The yellow of that sweater looks lovely and soft! I hope you finish it!

  20. I can't wait for the movie to come out and that is something I rarely say, but this Les Miserable looks fantastic. How fun if we could all go together and bring our knitting projects too.

  21. So, Les Mis...my sister has already seen it and she posted on Facebook "How do you make a room of 200 grown ups cry? Make them watch Les Mis! Very well done! Daniel Day Lewis now has Hugh Jackman coming after him for that Oscar." I can't wait to see it either. FYI, this Sunday on PBS is all of season two of Downton Abby. That's some good knitting TV if you can put up with the fundraising.

  22. Good for you knocking things off your Christmas knitting list! I'm making three pairs of socks this year too, but two of them are in super-bulky yarn, so it's kind of cheating. ;)

  23. Such a pretty yellow yarn for your sweater. Good luck on your Christmas knits.

  24. Love the colour and the pattern. Good luck on the sock knitting, if anyone can do it, you can :)

  25. My list is growing as yours is winding down? I might just send some knitting down your way… ;)
I also want to see Les Mis; we used to go out to the movies on Christmas night or the night after, back in the days before we had kids, and we're talking about resurrecting that tradition this year to go see it. Not sure who will stay home with the kids, though; maybe one of the grandparents! xo

  26. I am reading a bit of Flagg also. Great minds! My holiday knitting is slow. I keep getting drawn to new things. This week my obsession was a wreath.

  27. I knit one of those as a baby gift a few years ago. I really wanted to knit it for myself but have never gotten around to it. One of these days....

I still have a pretty hefty Christmas knitting list to tackle. I may be knitting on Christmas Eve. This is the time I turn to the Yarn Harlot for inspiration!

  28. My list is still where it was a week ago.. or two? Hm. We'll see how far I can get still!

  29. Aren't there some terrific looking movies coming out this year? I've several on my list I can hardly wait to see!

  30. That color is beautiful, I'm sure the sweater will be gorgeous (can't go wrong with EZ!)

Thanks for the book recommendation, it looks like a perfect December read.

  31. What a pretty color! I can tell it will be a beautiful sweater. You are such a fast knitter; I am in awe. You can get those socks done. What movies do you plan to watch?
    xo

  32. Oh, I love that yarn! It looks soft and bulky - may favorite. I think I'll have to queue up some Christmas movies - maybe that will help move my knitting along!

  33. I'm really excited to see Les Miserables too Karen! Haven't read the book yet...
