Unravel

I've ripped out the green pi shawl, oh I don't know, over four times.  I should know to not make executive knitting decisions past eight at night, it's not my ideal thinking time.  I haven't been thrilled with the second lace pattern for quite some time.  I even wrote when I finished row one or row three and still I've found a mistake and where there isn't a mistake, I didn't even like that pattern!  Before dinner last night, I was on the mad hunt for another pi shawl that would be to my liking.  Lucky for me Elizabeth Zimmermann had one of her "pithy" directions in her Knitter's Almanac book.

This morning I am fresh, renewed and restored, ready to tackle the beginnings again.  Ready to knit a pi shawl that will require minimal effort on my part besides the counting of stitches.  Wish me luck!

I've tidied my crate shelves, that we found in a barn in Ohio when we lived there around 1987.  I love them so.  Notice the gaming guides on the top far left (not mine) and the piano books on the bottom left two crates (not mine).  Just think of all the knitting books that could be shelved once the "not mine" books leave.  A knitter can dream.

  1. Your books are nice and neat. Ours are still packed up in about 20 boxes from our move. We had a wall of built ins that were filled. I hope to get ours onto shelves soon. I love yours! Good luck on the knitting, I have been reading Snow Child at night instead of knitting.

  2. I think we are working on the same shawl pattern Karen. It really is an nice, no brainer knit and I like it.
I just returned from the yarn store where I picked up my yarn to cast on for the Leaves of Grass shawl. I bought Berroco's Ultra ALpaca Fine color 1275, a kind of green-yellow color. Now to see if I can do that disappearing cast on again, last time I think it was just luck.

  3. I feel your pain ! I joined the KAL knitting pi shawl by jared flood and I think I spent 5-6 hours trying to get the first 24 rows perfect. Thanks to the help of lori x 5 it has finally come together. Reading Tracey's comment, oh dear I did not do the disappearing cast on. Oh well I can live with how mine looks.

  4. If a pattern isn't working, ditch it! There's plenty more out there, right? (That's what I've told myself before anyway...)

  5. I am gearing to start Leaves of Grass today. I am planning on making a worsted version for a huge blanket. Glad you found a new outlet for your yarn and a better pattern. And book space - oh my!

  9. These are really special shelves, beautiful.
I also have done some tidying, in order to force me to that I usually have to invite people over. Then I suddenly start cleaning and tidying like a mad-woman so not to embarrass myself :)

  10. I love the crates - and your books look beautiful all stacked in them (well, books always look beautiful...but you know what I mean).
I'm rather breathless looking at the pi shawl pattern. Goodness. Beautiful and terrifying. Can't wait to see yours!

  12. Karen, are you doing the Autumn Leaves shawl with Melissa (twoknitwit)??? It is beautiful. I love your mystery California yarn (and the part about finding a few twigs... always makes me smile, too). My knitting has been at a standstill as I try to catch up on my work from December (ignored while the Little Men & Co. were here). I will look forward to seeing all your FOs. blessings ~ tanna
