Yarn Along

I've been focusing on my only two projects this week.  The first project is the pi shawl in the photo.  I am less than 20 rows away from the last section of lace.  Once that is complete I'll be doing the lace edging.  Getting to the lace edging is motivation enough for me, so exciting!  This project is knit during the day without many distractions.  Once evening hits, I set it aside.  It is not fun to fix knitting errors in laceweight yarn.  Trust me.

My other project is the tea leaves cardigan for me!  I've just completed the yoke and started the body of the sweater.  Love all that stockinette and mindless knitting.  If you're contemplating a sweater for yourself this one is a great one to knit up.  It's with worsted weight and the directions are written clearly.

Still reading the same books and enjoying each one.  In Wuthering Heights, Cathy Sr. is just starting to be a bit of a brat.  Heathcliff is always moody and Hindley is going to get what's coming to him.  His wife just died and he's going to become "undone".  Love the drama and the clever way the story is told through Mrs. Dean.  Excellent.

My Anne Lamott book Plan B is over half way read.  I read one or two chapters each night.  Each chapter is an essay so it's easy to pick up and put down.  I find this book richer in thoughts and reflections but I guess that comes with aging and finding your voice in writing.  I'm also laughing more while reading this book.  She is quite a funny storyteller.

What are you knitting and reading?

  1. You description really makes me want to revisit Wuthering Heights. So many books and so many patterns! I think motivation to get to the edging is very powerful. And the edging seems to go so quickly.

  4. Karen, are you following a pattern for you pi shawl? I would love to start another shawl and this time knit in a lighter weight yarn so I am on the lookout for something. The shawl/throw I just finished is heavy, but has made a great overup for cold mornings.

Are you getting snow this morning? We have a lot of high wind and rain last night, but today I see sunshine.

  12. The shawl is quite lovely. I can't wait to see the finished lace. Plan B used to be one of my favorite books. It's hard to explain why, but I read it once a year for about half of my twenties. Anne is very funny. :)

  17. Another week has passed and I still haven't picked up Wuthering Heights!
I have daytime and evening knitting, too - I can't bare to pull back knitting of any kind - I can completely see why lace weight would make it more difficult.

  39. I was looking at the tea leaves cardigan on Ravelry yesterday...I love the name. I like the idea of doing some mindless knitting. I managed to find the yarn I was looking for to complete socks for my sisters but I'm longing for a slightly bigger project. I like the tea leaves and have a couple of other patterns in mind too. For the weekend I think it's going to be sock knitting all the way though.

It's good to find something to read that makes you laugh. I seem to vary what I read, something serious then something silly or exciting or funny. I've just read a detective story one of my sisters sent to me, It wasn't very well written but I can see the appeal it was so easy and light and lovely to read in bed. Now I've finished it, I quite miss the characters. I've just started Bird Cloud by Annie Prouix. It's mostly about the family genealogy at the moment, I'm looking forward to the bit in the wilds. I like the sound of her mother though and when she mentioned her mother's favourite book is Girl of the Limberlost...I had to find out about it...that may be my next read.

I'm glad that you are enjoying Wuthering Heights, Jane Ayre has to be my favourite of the Bronte novels. They are all good for snuggling down to read at this time of year as March winds blow.
    Have a cosy weekend.
