Yarn Along

I admit that I'm still reading the same books.  This past week I've only read at night which leads to little progress.  Last night I finished Plan B by Anne Lamott and enjoyed it more so than Traveling Mercies. Her essays have a mature writing about them and being somewhat mature it struck a personal chord within me.  Wuthering Heights is chugging along as well.  Every time Joseph the servant speaks I'm slowed down by his "accent".  Sometimes he goes on and on in the book, which makes me dislike him all the more.  Currently Heathcliff has returned mysteriously richer.  Cathy is being "friends" with him even though her husband Edgar gets mad.  And poor Isabella she is crushing on Heathcliff.  I want to warn Isabella too!  Hindley poor fellow is about to lose his inheritance through his own fault.  I cannot wait for consumption to hit some of the characters.

My knitting is on fire this week.  I've made great progress with the body of the sweater.  Over half way?  Then because sometimes I have attention problems I started this lovely cotton shawlette which is popular on Ravelry-198 yards of heaven.  I'm enjoying it because the needle size is an eight!  Chunky knitting for me, if you know me at all.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  6. i can almost see the smoke coming off those needles here!!! You are really moving out! SIZE 8!!!!!!!! Feels like knitting with tree trunks, doesn't it? That's going to fly, too! You'll have FOs galore next week. Can't wait to see.

  8. Yay, Tea Leaves! It's my favorite sweater that I've knitted.
I recommend reading at least one or two novels by Anne Lamott. I can only think of the title of one- Bird by Bird - but there's more out there.

  10. Oh, I love this photo! Wonderful colors this March morning ~ the yarn, the citrus, the books, the light. You just put a much needed pep in my step!

(I, too, got very hung up on Joseph's accent! lol)

  12. Let me know about 198 yards of heaven. It's in my favs and I keep coming back to it....I have some malabrigo that would be perfect....but I'm still new to lace knitting so I'm a bit skittish about it.

  16. hee hee, yes size 8 is too big for me too! but sometimes comes in handy, your shawl will be so pretty and lacy! they worked so well for travel this time for me too, knitting in not well lit places and or not looking at knitting while having conversations, thank goodness for 8's!

  17. "I cannot wait for consumption to hit some of the characters."

This statement, alone, nearly made me fall on the floor laughing. Thanks for the chuckle.

  19. The weekend before last I bought half a dozen balls of yarn in a mixture or raspberry and pale blue balls, to knit a patchwork bag that it is on my list of projects-to-make, the two colours look so lovely together in your photo.

As for two projects at once, I currently have three (at least! I am probably forgetting one) I find it stops me getting bored of any one project, also I am often in the mood for different types of knitting. Size 8 needles sound good! I have a planned project using 6mm needles soon (US 10!).

  20. I love the hot pink yarn! You are too funny knitting with chunky size 8s!

  21. Both of your projects look just lovely! I love the lacey look on the pink. I have a few Anne Lamott books that I meaning to get to very soon (reading a book on Ignatian prayer at the moment). I follow her on Twitter, and she is always throwing gems out there, as well as being very real about the struggles of writing. She is a gift to all of us!

  24. I love the colors of your two knits next to each other. I can never walk away from your blog with out wanting to cast on a new pattern! I've eyed 198 yards of heaven for over a year now. It is going to look great in that color. :)

  26. I've been looking at 198 yards of heaven the past week. I need to make my friend something & she loves shawlettes. That's the pattern I'm thinking of using. I just have to find the right yarn now!

  29. Chunky knitting indeed! ;) I rarely read more than a page or two these days... i'm just too tired at bed!

  30. Haha - you crack me up saying you can't wait for consumption to hit some of those characters! And I find that most weeks, when one thing is on fire (knitting or reading), the other slows down a bit. I'm loving the light purple yarn you're using for your tea leaves!

  31. Wow - size *eight*? That's massive, for you. :)

I love the color of that shawlette. I don't love knitting in cotton, though. I have some cotton/wool I'm using to make another spring sweater for Julia...working my way slowly toward all-cotton... xo

  32. I'm off to look in to that shawlette. It looks positively lovely!
