Refresh Thy Spirit

I was lucky to have two outings in one weekend. On Saturday my husband and I went on a day trip.  I find day trips to have the best of everything.  I explore, I eat and car knit but best of all I sleep in my own bed.  That is a perfect day.  Anyways, we planned a day trip to Bethlehem, Pa.  Why might you ask?  Well since I teach knitting, conversations swirl about yarn.  A new friend suggested we go to Bethlehem and check out their yarn shop, historical town and good food.  After I researched, I discovered that there was a used music store that would delight that husband of mine.  He is always on the look out for more music.

As you can see there's not one photo of yarn or the store.  I was too engrossed in shopping to remember to take a photo. However, walking around the town, I was in photographer mode.  I was constantly stopping and snapping.  The weather was perfect-cold in the shade, hot in the sun.  Nearly every restaurant had outdoor seating on the side walks.

We window shopped, we explored, we took in the delightful sights and sounds of a vibrant town.  We had a great time being together.

My favorite photo is the one below which is an excerpt from a Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem.  Beautiful, isn't it?

Even though I neglected to take yarn shop photos, I did snap a photo of the music store window shop.  You see, I was bored to tears in that store.  I know it and my husband knows it and if I was to confess I  I've whined a bit in the past.  It was hot in the store (no ac) and a hot flash was brewing but I was patient because I'm sure he was crying deep down inside sitting on a fluffy sofa in a store full of women while I browsed through heaven (I mean yarn).

That my friends is what marriage is all about.

  1. Were you at The Knitter's Edge? I LOVE that shop! Fabulous place. For.Sure. I try to go about every 5-6 weeks, since we are about 1hr 20mins away. But, we go for the day. Sit in a 'class' and knit, shop and then have a late lunch on the way home.
My husband is a great one for day trips. He will take me anywhere (almost). He is very patient, although, I don't push it. And while on our summer 2 week vacation, he will sit and wait while I yarn or fabric shop...He likes to look at tractors and hardware stores (especially the old ones in New England) He's a keeper for sure!
Yes, 'sharing' interests is part of a GREAT relationship!
Emmaus is not far from Bethlehem. There is another really nice shop there. Totally different than Knitter's Edge. It's calls Conversational Threads. They carry some similar but also some very different yarns than "KE". The shop atmosphere is different, but I like to go there, too. I buy my yarns for color work and 'Nordic' knitting at "CT". It's another great place and Emmaus has some great places for the husbands to look while we shop!

    2. Yes I was at the knitter's edge! We did not make it to CT because we ran out of time. They close early on a Saturday but I would love to see it one day. I'm sure we will be heading over there again one day!!

  9. I love your summary of marriage....you nailed it :) I do agree with you about day trips. They are the best of both worlds. My favorite is feeling like we got away, but then wake up to a whole new day at home without spending it half of it traveling. Glad you (both) had fun!

  11. I love Bethlehem :) They have a lovely downtown. My aunt and uncle live there and I went to college not far from there. We always used to go to Celtic Classic in the fall.

  12. I love that yarn stores have seats....for the husbands to nap in while they wait. Isn't that what they are for? I do love a good day trip!

  13. We love a day trip too, when the weather is fine we drive out somewhere most weekends. Anything to get out into the countryside (and avoid all the jobs that need doing in the house). My husband's thing is gadgets and computer type shops. I generally find a different shop to go in, or a nice bench to sit on and read ;)
