Yarn Along

I had an overwhelming desire to cast on something different.  So I did.  The yarn is Dream in Color Smooshy with cashmere-so very soft! and the colorway is "cranberry melt".  It immediately makes me think of fall and Thanksgiving so I'm happy while I knit.  The pattern is a triangle shaped shawl and it's an easy to follow lace pattern, if you're a confident beginner give it a look.  I'm going to knit until the yarn is gone.

Not only is there new knitting but I've started a new book, I'm on a roll people :)  This book was purchased for the cover art and the rough edges of the paper.  It is a visual and tactile experience.  The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin is also a best seller so hopefully it will be a captivating read.  I only started reading last night so it's much to early to form an opinion.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. I love that color! It is just like Thanksgiving.

  2. Love that colour it looks almost edible makes think of berries and pomegranates too.

I do exactly the same when choosing books...I suppose that's with being an artist, everything is visual first. Then I read the first page. I'm working on my Lida shawl too...not getting very far though because like you I've been watching tv and kept skipping a line or two on the chart. And just begun reading Nature by Emerson and loving his prose.

  4. That yarn color is gorgeous! I love shawls right now. I am knitting one for my mom's birthday and it is so fun! I haven't heard of the book, but definitely will look it up - I judge books by their covers :-)

  5. The Orchardist could be one of my favorite books this year (so far). It captivated me with it's slow unwinding of the story and beautiful language. Your project looks lovely!

  8. Ooh, you are on a roll. Did you say confident knitter? You just ruled that one out for me, the yarn is fabulous though. The Maile I'm working now is in dreamincolor and it makes me happy. I'm with you on the whole tactile part of reading. Even a favorite won't come home with me if it doesn't feel or look right. And there is a right! :)

    Blessings, Debbie

  12. That yarn is just gorgeous! I am trying very hard to use yarn from my stash and not buy new, but it's not fair when I keep getting tempted by all the wonderful yarn options out there.....

  13. That's so funny...I bought a book for exactly the same reason called Wish You Well by David Baldacci. It's wonderful, and I've read it twice. You can't go wrong with a beautiful cover and uneven pages. HA!

  14. Echoing many of the others who've commented...what gorgeous yarn. My current knitting is a tea leaves cardi in a mossy green which I plan to knit slowly through the summer with the plan of wearing it on the first day of fall. Rough edges on the pages of a book -- that's one of the things I loved about the copy of The Snow Child I borrowed from the library. :)

  20. Mmm, I love books with rough edges to the pages! So satisfying.

And I love that color! I have a few skeins of red yarn waiting to be knit ... Tosh Lace in Tart and Tosh Sock in Oxblood. Any shade of wine or scarlet is a hit with me!

I saw that book at my local library and kind of stored it in the back of my mind for a future selection. I'll be curious to see your thoughts on it.

  30. Lovely new yarn! new project and new book at once--sounds like fun! I have been neglecting my knitting lately, partly since it's so warm here. I have been itching to do some painting, though. A summer-friendly hobby!
