Yarn, Studio, Life

fall goodness
I'm slowly getting used to having my own space.  I spend time in my room and it feels weird-in a good way.  It's quiet and Frodo follows me to take a nap while I'm in there. All I need is a comfy chair to knit in and it will be paradise.

I couldn't resist buying the burnt orange cascade 220 yarn the other day.  For now I am just admiring the skeins, casting on a new sweater can happen in September or October.

this skein has 560 yards!!
Early this morning both kids called (I do love that) and lucky for me our son is coming home for an unscheduled get away weekend.  He has a sore knee from overdoing it-rock climbing and biking-so he's requested a little rest and relaxation.  Who can say no to that?  Today we'll leave around lunchtime to pick him up.  Road trip!

sleeve progression
I'm knitting my sleeves on two circular needles quickly making my way down to the cuff.  Some people dislike sleeve knitting, I love it.  It means that end is near and a different sweater will be available to wear.  Sometime this weekend I have to find the buttons I purchased for it.

list making with my favorite pen
The cicadas have been making their mid summer music this week, the sun takes a little bit longer each day to rise, and new to me birds are chatting away in the afternoon.  I have no idea what breed they are but their conversations are entertaining.  They are kind of bossy and gossipy.

Frodo caught another little rabbit, poor little one.  Catching him was a scene from Wild Kingdom, unfortunately the little rabbit was woefully beyond help.  Before we let Frodo out now, we warn the rabbits to run-if they speak English the heed the warning.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. I'm drooling over your yarns! Especially the burnt orange! We're planning a trip to the lys this weekend to pick out some baby girl yarn. Ree has informed me she thinks she needs yarn too. Of course! The cicadas have been singing here to. I love it! The sound of summer to me. Have a great weekend with your son. I hope his knee feels better soon!

  3. Oh.. love, love, love those yarns! Bring on the apple cider and crunchy leaves of fall!

Sleeves are wonderful because they are typically the last thing, but they seem to take forever to knit for me! It's like a reminder that the end is near and new projects are on the horizon and I just want to get to those right.this.moment!

    I love your studio space!

  5. terriers and rodents.
it's just what they were bred to do. (he's a terrier, right?)
I had rabbits as pets as a kid. And a West Highland White Terrier. Bad mix.

    1. Of course he is a terrier. Our verbal warning might be working...it's the baby ones that are not terrier savvy.

  6. Last night, as I was sitting and knitting in front of the t.v., I thought of you and your brand new studio. : ) It's nice that Frodo follows you in and keeps you company. My Elvis is like that, too--he follows me everywhere. ♥

I almost bought that burnt orange colorway (I *love* it!) the other day, but then settled on a skein of pumpkin spice (for the mitts). I can't wait to see what you make.

I've been enjoying the "music" of deep summer, too. A pair of chickadees are nesting in one of my birdhouses. : ) And, our yard is also overrun with rabbits. What is going on??? The other evening I counted six on my front lawn. They are fearless (and really very cute and sweet). ♥

Enjoy having your son home this weekend!

    1. We have a pair of older wild rabbits that stare Frodo down between the fence. They are smart and rarely venture inside the fence :)

  7. That yarn is a lovely shade, very Autumnal. I am restraining myself from buying yarn at the moment, determined to use up some of what I have. You know when every time you see a pattern you'd like to try you don't have the right yarn in your stash and then you look forlornly at your yarn stash and can't think of anything you'd like to make it with the yarn you have? That's my life at the moment and why I seem to be knitting a lot of dishcloths.

  13. Wow, I just adore the color of that yarn! It must be a nice little breeze of fall every time you walk into the room! I am so impressed with your sweater! And so happy you have your own space. I wonder if you could find a comfy chair on Craigslist? Or even a yard sale or estate sale? Sometimes it surprises me the gorgeous things people will give away!

  15. I love that you have studio space now. Love mine but it is in constant disarray. Beautification really needs to take place. My eldest daughter has actually granted me a day of help if I make lists as to what needs to happen, then leave her be to perform her magic (truthfully, I just like the decorating part and fail at the organization part!)

Cascade has awesome colors, don't they? It's so dependable and always a go-to yarn when I'm not sure. Especially for crochet.

Awesome son visit? Rest and relaxation? All good...with a little A/C thrown in and it all sounds wonderful. :) Enjoy!

  16. I love having a room on my house (spare bedroom) that I've turned into my craft room. I have a TV, DVD player, a comfy couch and my knitting at my fingers. The dogs love to hang out in there with me, too.

I'm glad you've been able to carve out a place for yourself as well. :-)
