Christmas Knitting-Hats, Socks, Ornaments-Oh My

Isn't this frantic time of year thrilling?  I love how secretive we are during this month. I finished the bulky cowl, which was a labor of love, but I haven't done a photo shoot yet, I'm waiting until my daughter opens the present.  But trust me the cowl is off the needles and this knitter has never been happier.

In my photo is fingering weight yarn and I'm mulling over a lace weight project to cast on as soon as I'm tired of the stocking ornament knitting.  That will be happening any day most likely when the red and white yarn runs out!  I continue to relish the sockhead hat knitting and last night I cast on a pair of socks for my son.  I am thrilled he doesn't want a bulky cowl ;)  I knit so much faster with thin yarn.

My reading has been sparse and continues to be the same, Dear Life by Alice Munro.  I am savoring each story and after a long day of holiday preparations I snuggle into her stories.  I highly recommend her writing.

What are you knitting?

Joining yarn along, WIP Wednesday and Frontier Dreams.

  1. Oh, those little stocking ornaments are so sweet. We just hung the pair our neighbor knit for us so many years ago!
My sister-in-law is working on a cowl that is giving her trouble. Must be a cowl thing this year! ;-)

  2. so, so glad you are on to 'happy' knitting!!! do you ever think...oh! I could just knit socks forever because I'm having so much fun with them....and then all of a sudden---oh! I could knit shawls my whole life and be happy!....and then---hats!!! yes. I'm going to use up all my yarn knitting hats. (maybe it's just me who does that goofy thing...but you really look like you are in a sock phase right now!.....I just ended my 'hat' phase!)

  4. I knit up some mini stockings a few weeks ago. They are such a quick satisfying knit! I love the sockhead hat...I should make that one of these days with all my left over sock yarns!

  7. Yes, so many things at this time of year that are "wonderful" only in that the season truly is wonderful. I'm glad you're onto happy knitting :) I'm looking forward to some light weight knitting (once I get about 6 projects off needles!)

  9. Isn't it funny the yarns people choose? I'm the complete opposite, I think think yarn takes forever to knit with and love the thicker yarns. But I'd be happy with anything flying off my needles right now!

  10. I have a feeling I will be knitting on gifts through Christmas Eve! I seem to like to do that for some reason. I am having a hard time focusing on reading lately. As a matter of fact I was just texting my daughter and we committed to making each other read every day for 30 minutes!

  23. EEk! It is secretive and exhilarating! I finally finished my cowl and it has lots of "loved" missed stitches for this newly discovered knitter. I was so excited to have it finished. It wasn't off for more than an hour and my littlest designated "his." :) Guess it is time to start knitting another one for me. XO

  24. I'm so with you on the thick yarn thin yarn thing, and I like working on small needles too.

I'm knitting some of my Runrig mitts because I need some ... I knit a lot of them but usually they're for someone else.

  25. I'm not a huge fan of thick yarn but haven't journeyed to lace weight either. I love that sockhead had great colorway you have there!

  26. So excited for you to have your kids coming home for a bit! We're enjoying having the son and his family with us -- having a baby in the house is so, so much fun. :) Knitting has been Christmas presents...I didn't even get photos of a few that had to be gifted early. The tea leaves is just about done -- yee haw! No Yarn Along post from me this week, though...too busy!

  27. Good to hear you are a happy knitter, I made the mistake of deciding to knit lots of the same thing and am now getting fed up with them. I am looking forward to casting on something completely different!
