Tree Whispering and Being in the Moment

I know all of you summer lovers out there in the world are groaning with more snow photos, but that is all I have outside is snow.  As a winter lover I'm embracing the season and enjoying the views.  February is a quiet month-a still month.  Outside the air barely moves and the trees stop whispering when the wind blows.  Each day I hear more birds chirping, they know that spring will soon be here.  So I go outside and soak up the winter sun.

Sunshine and snow go beautifully together.  Sometimes the snow sparkles and winks at you.  Bundled up with scarf, mittens and a hat, I fumble with my camera trying to balance with grace while capturing the winter beauty.  All of my swirling thoughts--errands to run, my kids, and what should be for dinner--stop.

I am in the moment.  Photography does that, it commands a presence of now.

Frodo is feeling better, thank you for your kind words and wishes.  He is hiding right now under the ottoman but he does come out to play and we have been having some frisbee throws each day.

I find that owning a pet is like having a perpetual infant/toddler. With a pet, you observe and guess based on behavior try to decide if the symptoms need medical attention.   I remember when my children were able to declare "my tummy hurts" or "I have a scratchy throat" those were golden sentences to my worried ears.  I could move forth and treat or if necessary take them to the pediatrician.

I believe today will be a sun shine day and once again, I'll be outside drinking it in.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

  4. I do love your snow pictures and I do love snowy days - as long as I don't have to go anywhere and deal with driving here in the south. Snow and the south is not a good combination. ;-) Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. i'm loving our winter this year far more than any of my friends!! is that the northern girl coming out just a bit? now, freddy----good old southern dog (born and bred)---can just barely spend enough time outside to do his 'stuff' before high-tailing it back inside in front of the fire. we're so glad frodo is on the mend!!! (I love his flat baby....all ours are flat, too!)

Winter is its best when there is pure white snow and glorious sun shimmering across its surface.

  13. Oh! I love your photos and have to agree about the magic of sun on snow. We had our first "real" snow here finally this week and this morning the sun came out and it was glorious. I just finished uploading pictures and then popped over to your blog where.. lo and behold, more sun/snow pictures! Lovely.

  16. This morning birdsong from outside my window woke me! A cardinal was calling and sparrows were twittering--the first time I've heard their songs in months. Spring is coming, but like you, I am enjoying these winter days: the purity of a snowy landscape, the architecture of trees, and crisp air. I love your photos and agree that photography has a way of fully immersing one in the moment. The other day I burnt a pan of cookies while trying to get a picture of a bird on the feeder! I'm so glad that Frodo is feeling better. He's such a cutie. Have a great weekend, Karen. ♥

  17. Glad you pup is well and your weather is snowy and white. We finally got that snow I've been wanting and boy is it messy here. We were without power for 10 hours on Thursday and it's so windy now that I'm certain we'll be without again this evening. I hope not, but then, what can one do? Happy weekend to you, dear Karen, :)

  21. yep, we just went through that "wondering" with Koko who was exhibiting some strange behavior. Why does it always seem to cost about $300?
