Currently on the Needles

I have three projects currently on the needles:  a scarf, a sweater and a pair of socks.  So naturally I cast on something new!  You know to chase away the end of winter blues.  I've been wanting to make another color affection shawl since I knit my first one. I loved the pattern, but the shawl felt too heavy to wear with nearly three skeins of fingering-it's a tad heavy, so I "lent" the shawl to my daughter who has a young strong neck :)

Anyways, this shawl is a lace weight version and I'm kind of excited about the process.  Already it feel light and airy! Last night I added the second color and who knew miles and miles of garter stitch could be so compelling of a knit.  The older I get the more I love garter stitch.

There is sweater progress of course and I posted about it yesterday here.  I am enjoying that knit process as well.

For my reading, well, it's the same and really I have nothing new to add to my critique.  The book is good and I'm a slow reader :)

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. A lace weight shawl sounds heavenly Karen. It's pouring down rain and cold, [well, cold for here] so maybe I should cast on a new project to chase away the blues too.

  3. I really like the color affection shawl and can't wait to see how your's turns out. You chose great colors for it! I'm still knitting on my scarf. Actually brought my knitting to Florida with me, but didn't take it out of the bag once. Too many other things going on... ;-)

  4. I want to make another one too but I don't know if I want to do lace weight or fingering weight again. You are correct - it is really heavy on the neck, especially the way I wear mine, sort of like a scarf. Hmmm.... something to thing about. You chose some great colors for yours! And I am itching to cast on something new too in addition to working on my sweater. Must be the change in season.

  5. You knit faster than anyone I know, so even if you have four projects going at one time, you'll finish all four before I finish one!! I do love a good mindless garter stitch too. So easy to do talk with others or watch tv.

  21. You always pick such soft looking yarns! I finally finished my mystery. I think I might take a break from reading to focus on my knits. Listening to Harry Potter 7 ... again with my son on the weekends, and thinking the Hobbit is next up. I think my next read will be a "reread" as well.

  25. There is magic both in the finishing and in the beginning of a project, isn't there? I must have 20 different things going right now in various media, but that doesn't stop me from starting new ones!
