Currently on the Needles

While I was in a bookstore (again) trying not to buy any books (again), I came across this one and had to buy it for two reasons.  First the cover art just seemed to be spring/summer like and secondly the back summary sounded so interesting.  I believe the book will be a light read, since it is written in a series of letters, memos and quick little paragraphs here and there.  I'll let you know when I read further into the book.

On the needles is something new!  I have a halfhearted goal of always having socks on the needles, however I'm in need of some gloves (yes! gloves).  Since socks and gloves are knit on double pointed needles, I consider gloves to be socks for your hands.  I'm knitting with some very old stash yarn, I dare to guess 7 to 10 years in the stash?? The sock is wildfoote, a lovely sock yarn and the pattern is knotty which I've knit before as seen here. My other halfhearted goal is to knit from my stash and this project achieves that goal once again.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. I've read that book so we will have to 'talk' when you are finished.
Gloves!! I've never knit gloves so it's going to be fun to watch yours unfold.
    Happy Wednesday!

  2. I've read that book too. I loved the style, it was a quick and very entertaining read. I "talked" with Tracey about it too... Actually, this book is the reason that I'm so into watching TED talks, because that one talk kept being mentioned, LOL!
    Have a lovely day!!

  8. Well done knitting from stash! I'm looking forward to hearing more about the book. I generally really like the letter, memo, jotty kind of format.

  9. I love the color!
In a high school SPanish test I could not remember the word for socks so I wrote "gloves of the feet." I totally didn't get credit and probably gave Senora the biggest laugh of the year. But I figured that if I had been talking to a Spanish speaker they would have known what I meant. Laughed their butt off but understood. (And now I will never forget that it is "caletines.")

  12. I have been knitting mittens for some workshops I'll be doing later in the year and I have been thinking the same thing about the similarity to socks!

  13. I thought Bernadette was a fun book, but it also made me think; I love it when I can find a book that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress on your gloves. I've never tried them because I've always found the prospect of fingers a bit daunting and fiddly, but I know you're up to the challenge!

  14. The first two thirds of the book made me grumpy, but the final third made the rest worthwhile.

  21. I work at Microsoft and after I read that book, I felt like it was "The Help" of Microsoft. She nailed the culture of the company, SPOT ON! Enjoy.

  22. I too love the color and think I am aways drawn to fall colors. Right now I am working on my first sock. I did figureless glove this year. I also have a poncho going for next fall. I'm listening to Outlander (read it the first time) since Starz is doing it this summer. I'm reading Rose Garden at night and The Tsar's Daughter during the day. Looking forward to some warmer weather but don't see it on the horizon.

  30. I'll be interesting in what you think of that book; my daughter liked it much more than I did. It is a quick read though and does keep you guessing. Are you using the Knotty pattern for your gloves? I made socks with that yarn in a multi. Good work knitting from the stash!
