This That Happenings

I am loving this shift of light and even though I am dragging in the morning I appreciate the time change as well.  These photos were taken in the morning!  Yes-morning, with lightness and brightness.  While I am full busy with my daughter with shopping and such.  We have resumed the after dinner walk.  Just the way Frodo and I like it.

Our dining room is really the piano room but the morning light is beautiful. I distinctly remember moving into this house placing boxes in this area and feeling the sun beams.  The room felt so homey and welcoming.  Funny though that now that we've lived here many years we only eat at the dining table for holidays or company.  Taking food from the kitchen seems so "far" to go.

The socks are slowly finishing up.  I sort of made a mini resolution to always have a pair on the needles without a dead line or time frame and so far I'm enjoying that resolution.

This cowl is one I wear in the springtime-not too hot and not too cold.  Not too bulky and not too thin.  I highly recommend the pattern.  I've knit it once more last year.

My Christmas cactus is so happy by the sliding glass door.  Who knew that sunlight and water would please it so?  I think I'm onto something with growing plants.

Today I'll be running errands, grocery shopping and spending more time with my daughter!

Notes:  In the second photo the doily is one knit by my mother-I inherited her knitting patterns and supplies and have yet come across that pattern.

Above the cowl is a key chain with the miraculous metal gifted to me by my elderly friend-whenever I drive I think of her and have a prayer in my mind.

  1. I adore the light in the morning and I am so looking forward to being able to sit outside with my first cup of coffee in hand! I like your resolution of always having some socks on the needles, I might have to adopt that one. :-) Your cowl is very pretty and so is your Christmas cactus. Mine is blooming right now as well and I love it.

  3. The change in light is what's keeping me going through this next (last?) storm. :)

I've been trying to grow a Christmas cactus but the cat keeps eating them. I'm still trying to find a solution to that problem... xo

  4. I love the light this time of year. It always amazes me how all of a sudden it just feels so different. Warm and springy :)
The rosary keychain is lovely. My mom has a pocket one that she always carries in her wallet that belonged to her dad. I can't tell you the number of times I've wished I'd had one with me (thankfully I have 10 fingers and have gotten used to praying it that way.)

  6. With that resolution, I might actually tackle socks! It was weird driving home from work last night in the setting sun...normally it's dark.

  9. The time changes always mess with my mind. But last night sitting on the couch knitting - I looked up and it felt so good to have it still be light out! I've just printed off the cowl. Since I like knitting with cotton and cotton blends, it should be a keeper!

  14. my socks are really about the only knitting that I don't get weirdly compulsive over.....always some on some needles somewhere---waiting for me!!! My poor old 'christmas' cactus has some tiny dried up buds that will never open into flowers....once it flowered (for Christmas for a change!) it was DONE. Yours looks like it's heralding spring!

  16. That cowl WOULD be nice for spring! We had temps reach almost 50 here in Wisconsin yesterday but now we're back in the teens. At least that one day of warmer weather signaled that spring WILL come, eventually. It's been a rough winter.
