Currently on the Needles

I'm nearly finished with the book Where'd You Go Bernadette? by Maria Semple.  I've enjoyed the story immensely and although I was skeptical of how the novel was written by memos, letters, and documents, I quickly adjusted and found the format entertaining.  I have no idea what I'll be reading after this, still mulling my options.

My knotty gloves are making slow but happy progress.  I've nearly completed the first cuff cabling pattern and will be knitting the hand and thumb gusset soon.  My color affection shawl is one inch away from casting off.  Each row takes quite a bit of time-I love that the most about shawl knitting!!

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Ooh love that colour. I'm glad that you enjoyed your book, I've sometimes had problems with novels that kind of letter/email writing format too. I'm reading another Anne Tyler novel at the moment and knitting simple projects like wash cloths. Nothing too complicated.
Wow that was quick with the shawl. I look forward to seeing it soon.

  2. Your gloves (both the pattern and the yarn) look wonderful! I'll be interested to see what you read next. I almost always have a fiction book on hand, but currently I can't find one I really want to spend time with. Also, I love your salt & pepper shakers!

  3. Your knotty gloves, are they cabled? I really like the look of the pattern.
And I agree with you about shawl knitting, I am so close to being done with my travel shawl, but each row take a little time to complete.

  5. loving that pattern----and color----for the gloves! Do you use 'glove needles' for the fingers? I used to, but found that I really just like the long dps just as well. Happy dancing for the color affection….a ta-dah moment later this week, maybe???

  6. The gloves are going to be perfect, I love the color! Hopefully you won't need to wear them this spring anymore though... ;-)

  7. I love the knotty gloves pattern. Your comment about the length of the rows in a shawl is one of the reasons I have been wary of trying one.

  13. I had the same reaction when I read 84 Charing Cross Road. It's all letters but I really got into the flow and ended up really enjoying the book. I'll have to check out Where'd You Go Bernadette!

  22. Both Knotty and Color Affection are on my to-do list. The latter is started but sidetracked for some reason. I'm reading Blood and Beauty at the moment for our book club and also just got The Storied Life of AJ Fickry which I heard about on NPR and read a few pages. It's going to be great.

  25. Those mitts do look cheerful and fun! I can't wait to see your Color Affection---I'll bet the grays are gorgeous together. I just had to order extra yarn for mine, so I hope the dye lots work, and I wish I had a more neutral color scheme, but we'll see.

  29. I love the pattern and colors! I actually just finished reading that book too! I had a similar reaction--I was kind of annoyed by the first section, but after that I found it really interesting and heartwarming.

  30. I love the color of the yarn you're using :) and I always loved cables but I'm still a little bit shy about them - I need to try more patterns with cables included... :)
