Capturing Beauty

Every August the heron returns to the duck pond and every August I try to capture him with my camera.  As you can guess, I have just the phone on me whenever he's around.  He plays hide and seek, pretends to be a duck or goose and I enjoy his beauty.  He seems to enjoy the attention we give him when we stop to stare-he waits a few seconds right when the photo is about to be taken then flies off looking like a prehistoric animal.

This groundhog was quite funny on our walk.  He saw us approaching and scrambled to jump into one of his many holes and missed.  Oh the grumbling, grunting, and low pitched squabbling sounds he made.  We were lucky to snap this photo and he was a little dazed after knocking himself in his head.  Silly little guy!

If we see any snake on the road, my husband gently escorts him off the road and saves a life.  He loves snakes and sees beauty.  I just stand aside and hand over the phone for him to snap a photo.

The fall changes are upon us!  I am seeing fallen leaves on the road side.  The angle of the setting sun is gentle, soft and sweet.  The mornings are dark and the evenings are losing daylight.  I do love this time of year.  Full of promise.

These past few weeks have been the busiest ever, so much so that September is looking mighty fine as a do nothing month.  Well, you know I won't do nothing...maybe I just won't be moving my children.  A quiet schedule will fall upon me. Our daughter has been visiting before her new job starts so I'm enjoying the last few days of her company this coming week.

While out and about yesterday, I spied these yellow mums and bought them for my husband who adores yellow.  Out of all the colors that flowers can come in, yellow is low on my list.  I am drawn to purples, oranges, reds, pinks and blues.  In the spirit of giving, I bypassed my favorite shades for his and I think he was quite happy!

I'm glad you have this time with your daughter and know you are enjoying it.
I was thinking of you yesterday when the temperature with heat index was 120 degrees because I know you are wanting for colder weather too, it just needs to hurry up. :)

    Have a beautiful weekend Karen.

  3. We have a Heron "visit" our yard every once in a while - I think he's just after the goldfish in our pond. :-) Sorry, no snake lovers here, they really just creep me out. The groundhog is a cutie though and the mums are pretty. LOVE yellow mums! Have a relaxing weekend!

  7. We had a heron visit our pond each summer in North Carolina, too, and we were always trying to get a good picture of him. We succeeded, finally, after many days of trying. He was one of my favorite animals to spy on walks - just beautiful.

  11. Although I have been denying it to myself, it does seem as if autumn is definitely coming, so your mum's fit right in with that and although they aren't necessarily a flower that I want to see all year round, I love to see them and have them in the house and garden for the autumn. A lovely gift for your husband! xx

  12. I think this is the time of year I miss PA more than any other....late August and early September were always the best times....temperature mild, all those great back-to-school supplies (what is it about new pens and pencils and clean notebooks....???gets me every time!), and life was just ready to settle in to a more gentle pace. As soon as your daughter leaves for her job----I'll be over for a couple months til things cool off down here! OK?
