Currently on the Needles

This week I've mainly focused on my husband's socks.  I'm still on the first one but today I'll be shaping the toe and casting on the second sock.  When I'm not knitting on the socks, I'm knitting on the cowl enjoying the color progressions.

I finished my book from two weeks ago, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.  Some of the essays were laugh out loud, some were amusing and some I didn't find so funny.  I'm glad I read the book though.  This week, I'm delving into some short stories by Alice Munro- Too Much Happiness.  So far so good, I love her writing style and her main characters.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  2. Cute socks! Someday I would like to attempt socks, but for now I like looking at your pictures and finding inspiration! The book looks great too, I'll add it to my list. :)

  4. Your socks look great! I know several males that would love socks with that yarn, so I may have to hunt some down. I found some of the stories in Too Much Happiness a bit disconcerting, but also thought there were some brilliant ones, and all of her writing is achingly beautiful. It certainly made me think about choices and decisions!

  6. The socks look amazing. I've yet to make any for Ahmad. I'm sure that he would love some like these. Your short stories look intriguing. Interesting title and I wonder if you were influenced by the cover illustration? I usually am. Your comments are encouraging me to look for a copy.

  7. I love striped socks. I still find sock knitting so daunting, maybe it'll be a challenge in the new year once we're settled for good. My reading has been mostly short stories/ essays lately too. They seem to fit better this time of year.

  8. Those socks are incredibly beautiful, Karen! Is it okay for men's socks to be beautiful? I love the colors and the pattern they develop as you knit!

  9. Nice looking socks! I'm sure your hubby will love them! I've finished a cowl and cast on for a dress yesterday. Didn't get very far yet, just a few rows. I think I need to get some longer needles to get a better feel for it. Have a great day!

  11. Yay for husband socks! I knitted him 2 pairs this month for the very first time since he never wears anything yarn... but ever since we moved to Poland he's been having cold feet so I knitted him a pair to test, and now he's addicted to wool socks too!
Which is both lovely and a tragedy as he has big feet and likes his socks long so it takes a long time to knit a pair haha.
    Lovely yarn choice!
Hugs and have a great day!

  20. I listened to Sedaris' Christmas short story collection last year and was underwhelmed. Yes, there were definitely some funny moments, but like most sketch comedy, I wanted nearly all of it to be over faster than it was.

  27. What nice socks! I have been knitting for my husband too, a hat that I can't show on my blog because he reads it. That's why I keep showing slow-going mittens, haha! I use anytime he's gone that I'm free to work fiendishly on it.

  32. I like those socks! It's a great colourway for guys. Much better than knitting plain grey or brown. Or worse yet, black. :-)

I'm ashamed to admit I've never read an Alice Munro book. I really need to do something about that.
