Walking and Waiting

Yesterday once I was home from errands, I whisked Frodo out the door for a walk.  The air felt still and quiet.  Dampness mixed with frosty air and I felt, knew that a storm was coming.  As you know, I'm hoping for snow but the predictors are indicating rain, sleet, freezing rain, and snow.  Each newscast was altered and changed.  So I wait and see exactly what will be arriving.

I wait for so many events.  I wait for my husband to come home for dinner, I wait for the kids to call, I wait for news of family health issues.  Waiting is a time to focus and be present, to perfect the mindset of enjoying that single moment before it scatters away never to be felt again.

Advent is a waiting and preparing season.  I'm preparing for our family celebrations and menu plans, but also planning my personal goals to be present in the every day.  I struggle with this goal.

However, each day is a new day to be present.  Frodo and I walk and during my time outside, I let go of whispers of "what ifs" and see the birds flitting about.  I witness the red squirrel squeaking and running up a tree.  I hear the water trickle down stream to fill the pond.

My fingers are crossed for snow.

  1. I appreciate your writing on waiting. I am also a waiter, waiting for many of the same events, but since I too often want answers "now", I will try and take your advice to focus and be present while waiting. I was waiting for snow also, but our precipitation has changed over to deluges of rain.

  2. Waiting is seldom easy because it seems we are created as impatient beings...but I love these words, "Waiting is a time to focus and be present, to perfect the mindset of enjoying that single moment before it scatters away never to be felt again." Your snow will come...we didn't get any of the bad weather they were calling for...it seems to all be over next to the eastern shore.

    Hugs my friend.

  3. I am waiting for the same and your words hit close to home. We would love some snow, but our unseasonable weather goes on. My father is going through health issues and I understand your waiting on pins and needles. Your words remind me to stay in the moment and not anticipate the future.

  4. waiting is hard for me too. and because I am anxious about what I am waiting for I often miss out on what is in my life NOW. Hope you get your snow soon. (but not the ice!)

  5. Same here, I'm also waiting for the snow. But temperatures are still a bit too high and it's mostly rain we get.

  10. I'm waiting for snow too, but I think my wait will be longer than yours, although it would be pretty awesome if we both got our wish.

  15. I've thought about this too; and how I struggle to be present to the 'now' and content. may God be with your family who have health concerns! Stay warm!!
