Another Pair of Socks

Yesterday I finished a pair of socks for my husband, phew!  It was a close one.  If you have a sharp eye you can see that the tippy toes do not match.  I ran out of yarn following the colorway on the second sock.  I decided to not match the toes.  I know he doesn't care and I wanted them done.  The color repeat was a long one!

The pattern is the one I've had memorized in my head for more than ten years, tried and true.  It's autopilot knitting and super gratifying!  I love to knit on double pointed wooden needles and zoom along.  No fancy pattern for me :)

  1. Hey stranger! Love all your snow! Just a tad jealous. Socks look great. I have some in the plans...not on needles yet. Take care!

  2. I never would have noticed the toes if you hadn't pointed them out. I just wound up yarn to cast on a pair of socks, I am going to try toe up.

  7. Wonderful socks! I'm the same with my plain vanilla sock pattern. I don't know my own kids' phone numbers by heart, but I can knit a sock while blindfolded. Well, almost. :-)

  11. We are so similar. Auto sock knitting on 4 needles is the BEST! I'm into a pair now

  12. Self striping sock yarns are the best, aren't they? Quick little knits that just seem to jump off the needles...

  13. Fabulous...I just love the colours... and I didn't notice the toes either

  14. I'm with you. You can't beat the relaxing factor in knitting simple socks in a self-patterning yarn.
No one cares about the toes!

  16. Oh man, you are such a fast knitter! You start and finish projects in the time it takes me to cast anything on! They are lovely even with the imperfect toe. Just gives them personality. ;)

  18. Yay socks! Self-patterning sock yarn is almost better than self-striping, right? Fantastic socks!

  19. oh wow! they look so fancy, practically fair isle to my untrained eyes but I see they are just self stripping; how neat! well done! someday I hope to do this... I guess the trick is memorize the pattern! :)

  20. Love that you didn't worry about matching toes... I pulled yarn and literally spent an hour figuring out where to start my second baby sock so that the colorway stripes would match... after two bouts of frogging, I got it as close as I could and am super happy. :) A good sock pattern is a treasure! Especially a memorized one!

  21. Lovely!!! No one will ever see the toes, and in any case that is what shows that they are handcrafted with love doesn't it!! xx

  22. Nice socks! What size needles do you use? Bet your DH likes 'em. Very manly color, too!

  23. This was my philosophy after my socks. No one will see them anyway. Especially the toes!
