Unexpected Snow

This morning the silence of the snow was magical.  I never tire of winter and how beautiful the snow looks especially at daybreak.  Poor Frodo, he's not tall so walking through the snow is a challenge for him.  He loves to follow the deer tracks, burying his furry face deep in the snow.

The past few days have had a quiet rhythm.  Phone calls from the kids, so happy to hear our son kept his electricity during the blizzard in Boston.  He is west of the city and I think those miles inland helped.

January days are filled with dreaming of new projects to start on the needles, reading books, planning menus and fitting in more fresh salads.  Trips are thought of but not scheduled.  My sister will be visiting in mid March and I'm  looking forward to that.  Also a girls outing to NYC is being chatted about with my favorite Aunt, sister and cousins.

The wedding plans are lulled a bit.  I'm excited that family who live far away are coming for the weekend and we'll have a family reunion of sorts.  Family gatherings for weddings are joyful.  Since both sides of the family are out of town, my house will be "home base".

So now I look at my carpets thinking maybe they need to be cleaned.  I look at the walls thinking a lick of paint would freshen up the area.  I've started a list for those such chores and maybe in the spring when windows are opened we will tackle them.

Have a lovely weekend!!

  1. Oh the plans that get dreamed up in winter. We are the same... the list sounds endless and we rarely get to all of them, but how fun it is to dream. Your neck of the woods looks like mine today. Enjoy the snow and the happy events of the week-end. xo

  2. Well, it's decided, I need to pack and drive to your home. We can knit, drink hot tea, walk in the snow and I will help with wedding prep, I have lots of practice! :)
    Enjoy a great weekend Karen.

  4. Oh poor Frodo - I have visions of him trying desperately to keep his head above the snow! So much to look forward to! Enjoy it all Karen. And enjoy your weekend!

  5. The snow is so nice - lucky you to have some! Crazy, I know, but I have really missed the snow this winter. Actually, it's been more like a non-winter where I live. My advice about the carpets is to get them cleaned after all the guests leave, not before. :-)

  11. so jealous.. always wanted to be in snow ,play in snow, walk on snow.. you get the picture. travelled overseas and the closest I got in the alps to snow was a pile of ice of melting snow (going near summer doesn't help) One Day! Anyway they are beautiful photos and give a great sense of the quite and flurry of snow. I imagine I wouldn't like the cold for long but it would make you appreciate hearth and home.

  12. Look at your winter wonderland, beautiful! We too had some snow, but I missed the quiet morning after as the winds decided to sing a tune, quite loud actually. But at least we have some snow, for that I am thankful.

I can't believe the dreamy days of January are shifting to February this weekend...yikes!

    Enjoy your weekend Karen. xo

  15. I can just imagine how happy this unexpected snowfall made you. It does look very pretty, but I am glad it's in your area and not mine. This last week has kicked my rear end and I hope to be able to get some rest this week. First a long walk/run with a friend to clear my head... Have a great weekend!

  16. Maybe you should wait until after your guests leave to clean your carpets. How much do I miss the quiet beauty of snowfall. Winter here has been gray, so gray and dreary, with little snow and minimal rain. I am envious of your quiet landscape.

  17. plans are such wonderful things and so are weddings!!! If you do go to NYC and have time, would love to meet you! (I live in easy commute distance to NYC as my husband works in Manhattan) :) But no pressure of course, I know these jaunts are often quite jam packed! :) Enjoy the snow!!! :)))))

  19. I think snow and the silence that comes with it is so peaceful. I also think that planning trips is half the fun of actually going on trips.
