Flower Variety

As I sit here and type this, I'm waiting for the AC guy to call me back.  Our outside unit (whatever that thing is called) is running all the time since yesterday afternoon.  I'm pretty sure that is not good.  At least I have AC right now.  I hope that it can be fixed or replaced or whatever it takes  Remember when my water pump for the house broken, oh the sadness I felt.  I could have cried buckets of tears and that was on New Year's Day a holiday!!

When we were living in Texas our AC broke TWICE.  Of course it was during 90+ degree weather as well.  We were too poor to go to a hotel so we had to tough it out... The house was incredibly hot and I was incredibly miserable.

Anyways, have you noticed that "poof" spring is in full swing and hinting at those summer days?  I walked yesterday and the woods were the greenest green if that's possible.  May was such a lovely month, I'm sure June will be just as fine.

Tomorrow is my son's birthday!  We celebrated last weekend with carrot cake and since he loved it so much, I'm making more carrot cake!  Why not?  Below is his origami flowers that will be part of the wedding table centerpieces at the reception.  I think I might be doing some cutting of paper today.  I am an expert knitter but my measuring and cutting skills are lacking.  Let's hope I don't get reprimanded for inaccuracy.

Have a lovely weekend!

  2. Your condensing unit? Maybe it's just a small leak of Freon and the ac will be running right in no time. I have done a few months here with no a/c, but I was a lot younger and know there is no way I could do it now..
Happy birthday to your son and I love that there has been carrot cake in your world, yum.
    Enjoy a great weekend.

  3. What a lovely batch of flowers, both natural and origami! I hope your AC fix is quick and inexpensive. It's been 90 here this past week, but next week is supposed to bring 60s, and hopefully some rain!

  4. Good luck getting your AC fixed!! I hope it's something small that can be fixed easily and cheap. ;-) When we were living in El Paso, our ("swamp cooler") AC broke - on the day of Hannah's christening! We had a house full of people and of course it being a Sunday, had to wait another day before anyone was able to come out and fix it. Makes for a good story now, but at the time it was HOT. The flowers are beautiful and I can't wait to see pictures of how you put everything together.

  5. I'd love your carrot cake recipe, please post!
We were recently w/out our 2-yr-old fridge for SEVEN days! We lived out of a dorm fridge upstairs. It is amazing, though, how little two people need in the way of a fridge/freezer. It wasn't that bad to be honest, except for schlepping up and down the stairs. :-)

  8. I love the origami and the plans for them to decorate the wedding guests tables. How cool is that!
No A/c here. We can usually get by with window units....its the night time when I must get cool to sleep.
It has been too cool to put them in yet. Green is everywhere here too and most welcome

  10. Yay for May. Our May has been unusually wet and the precipitation was very welcome. As June approaches it is already heating up, as by Monday it could be 85. Your origami flowers are charming and they'll make lovely centerpieces. Happy Friday!

  14. oh that a/c thing! years ago when we lived in NC....we only had window units (I know, crazy in that part of the country)...downstairs unit went out, and every day the kids (ages 2 and 3) and I would walk to the local grocery store and hang out in the frozen food aisle. Bliss.
Love the flowers....both paper AND real. Cleome? not round enough. ????

  15. Here in Australia if your AC dies then life is totally misery. I would move into the local shopping center to find relief or go to the beach for a day ( are you cllose enough). At any rate it is a good excuse to drink gin and tonics or some other refreshing drink with lots of ice. Any friends with a pool???
Hope your problems are alleviated quickly.
The flowers are super. paper flowers super clever and great for decoration

  16. I totally know what you mean about the greenest green, Karen. This time of year is just so lush, we had a wonderful walk today and I was in green heaven! Love the paper flowers, so pretty! Hope your AC is mended soon. We don't tend to have it as a rule here in the UK although we do have it in our office at work. Hope you have a splendid weekend and carrot cake two weekends in a row sounds like a great idea!! xx

  17. Ack. Good luck with the AC fix. I don't know why major appliance breakdowns and illness always strike on weekends when no one is available to help. Humph.

  19. I love those flowers, Karen, your son is talented like you! I sure hope the AC guy was able to take care of your air conditioning issue; you are so lucky to have central air, we only have room conditioners. : ( I also adore your phlox photos; our neighborhoods have been overflowing with them this year! Have a lovely weekend! xx
