Currently on the Needles

My knitting has been fast and furious and yet I'm still knitting that cowl!  I am quite close to being finished and probably would have finished yesterday if life didn't get in the way.  Sometimes I would love to knit all the time and let the errands and tasks of life sit in the back seat.

So while I had that cowl staring me down saying "finish me, finish me".  I cast on those socks I've been meaning to start.  I loved grabbing my dpns and going at it.  The yarn is a an oldie but a goodie from the deepest part of my stash.  I love the red stripe the best.  I'm just knitting a plain old sock pattern that is memorized in my head for my foot size.  Super easy knitting :)

My plague book, Year of Wonders, is really good.  Who knew that a disease spreading throughout a small village would captivate my attention.  I love reading about how they treated that mysterious disease back then and how the people reacted with the threat of illness.  It's a good read and I'm nearly finished.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. I am still knitting on my hitofude cardigan and loving every minute of it! Just reading the pattern I kept thinking "how is this going to work out", but lo and behold so far it has every single time. Love the construction of it! Your sock yarn is great, my favorite is the red stripe, too. :-)

  5. One of these days I am going to pluck up the courage to do socks, in my mind they are such a luxury. I love the yarn you have chosen.

  6. I love that sock yarn Karen. What great colors. I agree - I would love to leave the errands behind and focus on knitting most days. I try to do that on either Saturday or Sunday each week. Not always very successful though!

  7. On the subject of disease, I think you would like the book The Last Town on Earth by Thomas Mullen. A town quarantines itself to keep their citizens safe but things happen. I'll leave it at that. :)

  11. Your sock stripes are like a standard, Crayola box. I'm still working on the niece's jumper. I finished last night a historical romance and will give my full attention to The Goldfinch on my Kindle.

  12. Great progress! I've been churning through cowls lately, so I might have to start something else soon :) I hate to say it, but I haven't been reading much lately-although I just got a shipping confirmation for a book I preordered ages ago, so I might have to quickly finish everything I'm in the middle of now before it arrives!

  16. Keep at it! :D I have recently bought my first pattern and yarn to make my first pair of socks but I've been delaying beginning because I don't have much luck knitting with dpns. How do you manage to keep good and even tension throughout? I always end up with an unsightly ladder where I moved from one needle to another, despite pulling tight between them :-/

    1. practicing is good and when you go from dpn to dpn, don't pull too tight or let too loose. Pulling tight makes ladders as well! Keep trying!

  18. Karen, I continue to be in awe of your knitting skills! I wish I lived closer so you could teach me. : ) I am currently reading Judd Apatow's book, 'Sick in the Head'. I have never been a huge fan of his movies, but I've enjoyed interviews with him on NPR and am enjoying the book as well. xx

  25. Glad to hear the cowl is almost done, it's been looking fantastic so far! And it would indeed be so wonderful if we could just knit all the time. I'm spending my knitting hours this week just on socks.

  26. A young adult book called "Fever" (think that is the name) - is also a good one! I've been knitting a zillion things - starting this and starting that. One thing I'm doing is the Yin Yang shawlette - fun knit.. And I've got a baby sweater going - for no other reason than just to "try to do it"... and so many many other scarves and dishcloths and...and....
One of the books I'm reading - a new stand-alone by Julia Heaberlin - called "Black-Eyed Susans" - so good!
