Currently on the Needles

I started a new project on Monday for a dear friend's daughter.  She had unexpected surgery and well, I couldn't do anything but knit.  Each stitch I thought of her and sent many healing thoughts her way.  She is back at home and I am hopeful I will have a finished hat to give to her today.

According to Ravelry this is my sixth Wurm hat....I guess I like the pattern!  Have you knit it?  You should!!  My only warning is that the hat pattern uses lots and lots of yardage!  Anyways, I adore miles of garter stitch and the yarn and the pattern all melded together. Oh and I finished that cowl and posted about it yesterday.

I finished my plague book!  I loved it and recommend A Year of Wonders,  it's good.  Yesterday I started a new book We are not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas.  I've read a few chapters and so far love the characters and unfolding plot.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  2. Yes, I've made a Wurm hat. I actually made one for myself and then a friend liked it to much, that I made one for her as well. I hope your friends daughter will feel better soon and the recovery from the surgery will be quick.

  3. This is my first time taking part in Yarn Along. My knitting skills are at the beginner end of the scale but I am so enjoying picking up my needles after a while away trying to finish a patchwork quilt! I fear that I'll have lots of patterns favourited by the time I'm doing reading everyone's posts. I've saved this pattern and think I'll enjoy knitting it.
I hope your friends daughter makes a speedy recovery.

  4. sounds like a couple more books to add to the growing list!!! :) wurm is one of my favorites, too....you always get a great fit and for some reason, it just mess up hair the way so many hats do!!! I'm sure your friend's daughter will appreciate it! (Great color!)

  6. I'm sure your friend's daughter will enjoy the Wurm hat. It's a great pattern and I hope to knit at some point. I am just finishing a pair of Knucks fingerless gloves that are a gift for a friend. Today I hope to cast on Pebbles, a wee baby vest I'm going to make for Ella. As for reading I'm trying to finish my current mystery so I can start the new Louise Penny book that just came out. Have a great week!

  7. I hope your friend's daughter heals quickly! I knit Wurm a few years ago, and it's one of my favorite winter hats-so fun, and it really keeps the cold out!

  10. I have yet to knit a Wurm, but I've been on a real hat-knitting kick lately, so perhaps I should try it. :)

  11. When I finally learn to knit in the round, Wurm is top of my list to make. After being used to crochet, I'm sure I won't notice it eating yardage :)

We visited Eyam, the village of 'Year of Wonders', this summer, and it's a rather odd place. There's a lot of listing the people who died and where, but not a lot about the heroism of the people - sounds like I should add the book to my reading list.

  17. Karen, I have been enjoying a cup of tea while getting all caught up on all of your happenings and your knitting and your reading...wow! I am crazy behind in Blogland, but I am trying to get caught back up before school starts next week. I'm so glad that your daughter's wedding went so well. She is just beautiful! Your knits (and your yarn choices) are always the best! I especially love the striped cowl and that cute pic of Frodo all tuckered out on your couch. I hope you are enjoying restful days! *hugs* :)

  30. That hat pattern is on my list! Hope the daughter is healing well; I know she'll love the hat. You really need to read tthe Dooms Day Book by Connie Willis if you like reading about The Plague. Inspired by The Aviator's Wife, I am working my way through Gift from the Sea by AM Lindbergh. It's interesting.

  32. If I suggested this last week then please ignore me, but have you come across "The Roses of Eyam?" It's a lovely book we read at school about a village that makes the decision to isolate itself during the plague. Happy knitting x
