Currently on the Needles

Good morning!  My knitting has been productive this past week.  I've been focusing on finishing those socks and hopefully by next week they will be.  Phew!  Once these are finished, I'll be starting more holiday gifts, the season is upon us (me).

That luscious orange shawl was started over the weekend I think.  My in real life friend dyed this beautiful skein as a Christmas gift for me and I've been waiting and thinking about what to make.  I found this Serenity shawl and I thought it was perfect.  It's an easy shawl pattern and the yarn is wonderful to knit with!

I'm nearly half way through the book, Gone Girl.  Over all the story is interesting, I just find the characters quite distasteful which I believe is what the author is striving for.  However, I really don't like them!!  There is also some foul language that turns me off.  I do enjoy and use "sentence enhancers" (Spongebob reference) but I dislike when they are overused to shock me.  Anyways, the book is well written and I do want to find out what is happening.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  3. The socks are indeed awesome, and the shawl a real delight. Such a gorgeous colour, bright and cheerful for the gloomy winter months. Take care.

  4. I agree with you totally Karen concerning Gone Girl, the characters are such terrible people and I found myself despising them, a feeling I didn't like.
I need to pick my socks back up and finish them, yours look so pretty.

  5. I haven't read Gone Girl for that reason, I have heard so many people say that the characters are awful. I'm not sure I could get beyond that to read the book :-)

  14. So jealous that you have a friend who dyes yarn...and then gives it to you. Awesome orange. I use too many sentence enhancers when I get nervous...my own special form of Tourettes or something. Good grief.

    1. yeah, I have a potty mouth as well, but I only use certain ones, the ones they are using in the book are not in my arsenal.

  15. The socks are beautiful and OH! the color of that orange yarn is to die for.
I read Gone Girl a while back and felt the same as you. It's always hard to like a book when you are secretly wishing for the dimise of every single character. LOL!

  16. Karen, your serenity is going to be gorgeous in that orange. Of course, I'm kinda done with orange for a while (haha). Sorry about your book...hard to keep reading sometimes, but despite unlikeable characters and language, the story draws one in. Happy Wednesday!

  17. Your shawl is going to be gorgeous--what a beautiful color and pattern. And I love how your socks are turning out. I haven't read Gone Girl, and I don't think I will. Life these days is shocking enough for me ; )

  20. Those socks are amazing, love those colours! I thought that when reading Gone Girl too - they're all horrible! I kinda didn't care what happened to any of them, although I did like the writing :)

  21. Those socks and the shawl are stunning! I haven't read Gone Girl yet, but doesn't really sound like my type of book.

  22. Gorgeous autumn colours. I love the orange shawl. How cool to be able to dye yarn. It's something I'm determined to do one day. I'm getting a bit nearer to knitting I've actually got some sock yarn too and some for hat and mitts. I can't wait to start. I'm still reading my murder mystery set in Quebec and enjoying all the snow and the cosy meals. I can't wait for those either.
    Happy knitting.

  23. "sentence enhancers" LOL!! I agree - I enjoyed the story Gone Girl as an engaging read, but just couldn't watch more than 30 min of the movie, because they are just sooooo horrible and it was too real. Your shawl colour is just perfect!

  30. Oh I do like your socks those stripes are wonderful. Loving the orange yarn too. Thank you for the heads up on the book I don't think I will be seeking it out anytime soon.

  31. Your socks are super cute! And clearly the hit here today, although I am really loving that orange yarn. I had been thinking about that book but I'm thinking I'll hold off awhile, I tend not to like books a lot if there aren't any characters that draw me in - not always, but usually. Glad for your input there!

  32. The self striping yarn is great, I just love the different effects you get without having to really think about it. GORGEOUS shawl! LOVE the color! I've seen the movie and really wasn't that impressed, not sure I'd want to pick the book up and read it...

  33. Orange is always a fav color of mine! The self striping socks are great! I just received a gift of self striping yarn from Norway.

  34. Great socks and shawl! Thanks for the link. I'm with you on Gone Girl. Couldn't even get into it and then saw movie and decided I wanted to see how closely it followed the book. At the moment, I am reading Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks. It's very good.

I started Gone Girl but couldn't get into it. Someday I'll watch the movie. I did like the same author's earlier books, though.

  39. oo I love the sock yarn, and the colour of the shawl is very seasonal. I always love your projects!

  40. Sentence Enhancers. Love it. I didn't like anyone in the book too, and remained entertained. Between the two, I preferred Girl on the Train. The shawl seems like a seasonal knit and well personally, I think all seasons are sock seasons.

  41. That orange yarn for your shawl is gorgeous, very Autumnal too. Looking forward to seeing more of it. Looks like you're racing through those socks too
