Purple Daelyn Pullover Complete

Hey, guess what?  I finished that sweater - more than a week ago and my oh my was my blocking off and maybe still is with that pesky garter stitch slant...  The first time I blocked it, I did a slap dash job and it showed.  The sweater was too long.  So the second time I blocked it wide and used a measuring tape.  Much much much better.

I might be picky but do you see how the front bunches a tiny bit?  Yup.  I don't like that.  So the question is:  is it just me being very picky?  is that the way pullovers are and I'm a die hard cardigan wearer?  should I block the sweater again?

When faced with such dilemmas I tend to put the garment aside and wait it out.  There have been countless sweaters that I finish and my expectations are not met exactly.  Time away does do wonders.  For instance, on Saturday when I took the photos I really was not happy.  Now that I'm blogging about it and looking at it, I think I might be crazy and picky.  I like the sweater!

The pattern was fantastic to follow and of course Ella Rae yarn is delightful to knit with.  I prefer it over Cascade 220 because of how soft it is.  Ravelry note here.

  2. It really is a lovely sweater, both the pattern and heathered yarn, but I do understand how it is if clothing just doesn't feel right. I'm a cardigan lover also and think this pattern would be beautiful cardigan-ized!

  3. Love the yarn you've chosen, goes nicely with the garter stitch. I see what you mean about the shoulders, maybe a smaller size would have worked better? I don't think it looks bad by any means but maybe when you block it again you can get it to lie a bit flatter? It looks lovely though, very cosy

  6. I love the slate-grey colour and style. Lovely and cosy for the winter. I know nothing about blocking so cannot comment on that, but it looks fine in the picture, not noticeably bunched to me.

  9. The alleged front bunching is a non issue. Besides this way you can wear it on Thanksgiving and no wonder can tell if you eat too much pie. It looks great Karen. Knit more pullovers! You are onto something now!

You are an amazing knitter Karen. I’m going to have to try Ela Rae yarn, I’m using 220 Cascade and not super happy with the results.

  24. I think the sweater looks great on you. I bet it will be cozy and warm this winter. I have always wanted to knit something with that yarn.

  25. Well, first: the color looks great on you, it would make my face dull and sick, but it looks warm on you! Second, the garter stitch edge looks fine too. The sweater might be a bit too big, but at first glance it doesn't even show, it's just because I read your blocking adventures that I started looking really carefully. So if I were you, I would totally wear it!

  28. I love that sweater! It is a perfect pairing of yarn to pattern. I think another blocking is called for. It is weird to block sweaters flat but we aren't flat people!

  34. You look so cozy! I think the sweater's fine. It looks it has some room for you to layer a tank top or even a chambray button up with a layered and sparkly necklace. Great job. I like this neutral blue that will go with anything.

  35. I've just knitted this and I've noticed that bunching at the top and found it with several top down patterns, they are too wide at that point. I don't like the neckline on this sweater it comes up too wide on me rather like a boat neck but yours looks fine, more scooped.

    1. I think it is more of a boat neck than scooped neck. I found the neck to be wide but I do like it that way :)
