How was your weekend?

Today when I took Frodo outside for a walkabout, I spied four deer in the woods and lucky me, I got the photo of one!  It's not easy when Frodo is tugging me and I only have my iphone and it only zooms so much.  I feel like my day is complete.

My weekend is the extended version since I didn't post on Friday.  Christmas was lovely and we enjoyed having all the kids home for the holidays.  We opened gifts, I made waffles and latter we had a traditional turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and stuffing.  Before we said Grace we did Oplatek and I remembered Christmases past and traditions that last.  I'm lucky that my church has the wafers available and maybe my children will keep the tradition when they start their own celebrations.

Later in the evening, we watched "It's a Wonderful Life" and I blissfully knit away on a new hat.  For some reason, I'm in a hat making mood, I don't know why.  I'm guessing it's quick knitting compared to a sweater.

Saturday was a quick trip out to a few stores, I bought a box of next year's Christmas cards half off.  I went to be with everyone else and mainly just walked around, usually I stay home on Boxing day but I was "going with the flow" (I am challenged with that concept....).  After dinner out, we arrived home for more knitting (well for me, everyone else was doing their own thing).

Today we went to Mass and relaxed most of the morning and afternoon. My daughter and son in law left this afternoon to go back to California, sniff.  While my husband is driving to and from the Newark airport, my son and I are going to have left overs and watch another movie.

And there will be MORE knitting for me.
How was your weekend?

  1. We had our Christmas on the 24th (that's when Germans celebrate Christmas), went out to eat and had a really nice family day. On the 25th we stayed home - and dry - because it was raining like crazy here. Some areas had up to 5 inches of rain, roads were flooded and closed, some washed away... it was crazy. On Saturday it was a unseasonably warm day and Greg and I went for a bike ride with friends. It was so nice to be out! Today I got all my Christmas decor put up and some things done around the house. I'm knitting a hat, too. :-)

  4. A little bit of Boxing Day shopping here too - some sock knitting (two at once - got it the first time - second time a bit frustrating!- and really just trying to stay out of the summer heat! Just discovered your lovely blog and am working my way back through the archives and putting lots into my Ravelry account - thank you!

  6. Your holiday sounds lovely. We celebrated with our little family that is here in town, went to church with them on Christmas Eve, and opened gifts at their home on Christmas Day. We face-timed with our son and his family in Texas. Not optimal but the best we could do this year. Christmas night I picked up a sweater that has been languishing because of Christmas knits and prep. On the 26th I bought another needle so I could knit the yoke of this top down raglan on two needles. Cold here today with snow predicted tomorrow. Good day to be inside and knit. Have a good week.

  8. It sounds wonderful Karen. The Christmas holiday was so wonderful, I'm just sorry they are over.
It's hot here and the a/c is running, but I have my knitting and am pretending it's cold.

  16. Your Christmas sounds as if it was lovely, Karen! You must live closer to me than I first thought; we sometimes fly in and out of Newark as well...though not as much as we use Kennedy. We've had a great holiday, all thre girls were home for Christmas! Kate leaves tomorrow, Mary on the 3rd and Michelle on the 6th. I'm enjoying every moment of their stay! xx

  17. Sounds like a terrific weekend celebration! Like you, I'm on a hat kick right now. I think it's my "after all the big knits for Christmas" way of doing quick wee knits (mine are for baby boys at church). Feels good to have them flying off the needles after working on my Citron which seemed to be the never-ending shawl. Loved it and love the way it turned out, but still...I was ready to move on! We have snow, and all is lovely outside. I've been blessesd with a day home alone, so I'm catching up on lots that's been neglected due to Christmas, but that's ok. :)

  18. No stitching here in VA. I've been battling the urge to nap! I gifted myself a learn to knit book. That's my new year project. Happy stitching, can't wait to see a picture of your hat.

  20. Sounds like a wunnerful Christmas. And all your commenters sound like they had an awesome one too. I seem to be in hobo mitten mode. Easy easy and well you can never have too many. Right? After enjoying a very fallish start to our winter NOW we are hunkering down for a major snowstorm. Gotta love that Momma Nature sense of humour. So lots of knitting will be done. Have a great week.....

  21. What a wonderful holiday you had! We had a lovely one too--I am a big promoter of traditions--studies show those are what bring adult children home! My Grands had to go home on Saturday evening and believe me, there were lots of tears and hugs. My daughter just has to look at me with tears in her eyes as she climbs into their car and then I lose it. I try not to let her little girls see as I don't want them to be sad! I am knitting a hat too---my first one for myself. I am not a hat wearer, but for some reason, I think I might find the Sock Head hat acceptable and needed at times. I am also knitting on a Churchmouse Yarns poncho pattern. Both projects are easy knitting--something soothing and needed after this crazy whirlwind month.
Wishes for a happy week are sent your way...
