Currently on the Needles

I am on a sleeve!!  Oh the bliss of knowing I am getting close to the end of the sweater knitting.  Some people dislike sleeve knitting but I don't mind at all.  I find it fast and fun.  How about you?  Are you a sleeve lover or hater?  Just wondering. Oh and I finished the baby sweater and posted yesterday all about it.  I love the red buttons too!

I wound up my "Ginny yarn" yesterday but have yet to cast on a shawl.  I'm still contemplating which pattern to use.  I've narrowed my selection down to three....I think.  But I just might do one more search on ravelry.  I want crescent top down shaping, no cabling and well, something that looks like fun.

I am STILL reading the same two books as last week.  Both are kind of long so I'll blame the books and not my slow reading skills.  Carry On is chugging along with an interesting plot line overall.  I have no idea what is going to happen.  I haven't read reviews or a plot summary and so far I haven't peeked at the ending.  I do that sometimes to ruin the book, I just can't stand the suspense so I peek.  Song of the Lark is 80% read according to the Kindle.  I'm ready to finish that book as well.  It's been an okay read.  Again, it feels like I've read the book before or saw a movie...a weird feeling and scares me thinking my memory is fading!!

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Have you knit any Helen Stewart shawls? I think Pebble Beach is one of my all time favorites

  2. The sweater! So pretty! I am thinking of starting a shawl, so I am looking forward to what you come up with! And I am the opposite of you, my reading is incredibly fast, my knitting...it takes me forever to finish anything!

  3. I love sleeves!! They are so fast growing! This shade of blue is gorgeous!

  4. Decisions decisions - I have the hardest time when deciding which shawl I want to knit next. Doesn't it feel great to reach the sleeves?

  5. I love the sweater. That will be perfect for those cool spring and fall days ahead. Glad you are making progress with your books. I know how that is. Sometimes, a book can be good, but it just takes forever to get through! Enjoy what's left of the week.

  6. Goodreads emailed me this morning to say Rainbow has a new short story collection out. Something about waiting in line for Star Wars. I love and hate pattern searching at the same time. I think I am a bit impulsive about the whole bit...

  7. having never knitted a sleeve...i have to say i'm neither a lover or a hater (HA!) Love that sweater!!!

  8. i'm a sleeve lover....and will sometimes use them as my gauge swatch!!! (shhhhh don't tell) Raglands look horrible on me, so I much prefer knitting all my sweaters in pieces, so this works well. (Hubby on the other hand only loves this one particular top down sweater, and by the time I get the huge body done...the sleeves are a piece of cake!!! So love them, too!!!!)

  9. I don't mind sleeves as they go relatively quickly.
I like the long, crescent shawls, too!

  10. I love Helen Stewart's patterns and want to knit more of them! As to sleeves I am neutral; I think I now knit for knitting's sake so I don't particularly mind any part anymore!

  11. I'm working on a sweater sleeve at the moment as well - it is taking so looooong.

  12. Lovely sweater! I love Ann Budd's patterns, however Sleeve Island is the bane of all sweaters!

  13. I think it's completely normal to have those sorts of feelings about books and movies, no matter the relative youth of your memory. I am re reading the Poisonwood Bible (last read 15 years ago) and I remember none of it. There's a ghost of memory there, but it's just like reading it for the first time, almost. This happens all the time, and my memory is pretty good. I think sometimes we scan so fast the first time, and so many other (more important things) are competing for our attention that it's easy for some information to get pushed out. Lovely, lovely sweater - can't wait to see it finished!

  14. Was going to suggest the pebble beach shawl too. It's a great knit!

  15. I hate it when I reread book and don't realize it until close to the end of the book. I think for the most part Goodreads has helped with that

  16. I don't do much pattern knitting, but love your sweaters! happy reading!

  17. I love this colour. I'm happy with pretty much any part of a sweater...Although having said that I still have to finish Ahmad's cobblestone and I'm a bit stuck at the joining of the sleeves! I miss blog reading and writing, I got locked out of mine when I was busy and didn't have time to write and missed some software updates. I must get myself sorted out.

It must be lovely to have some yarn dyed by a blogger friend. She seems to sell out so quickly, I'm never in time to order any. One day.

I know that deja vu book feeling. Probably it's a similar plot to something you've already read?
    Have fun,
    debx

  18. I'm glad some people like sleeves, but I've always struggled with them. I always feel like they should go faster than they do, and then everything just starts to drag. Congratulations on making it through the body!

  19. Look at that sweater, can't wait to see it on you :) I don't mind sleeves, the first one is great, the second one, well, sometimes I wish it would knit itself :)

  20. I went to look for that book at the library with my son on Monday, in the process got him interested in using the online account and queue, win win.

Here is my thing with sleeves. I don't mind if they are already set in, and not individual pieces. Individual sleeves give me the willies for some reason, especially the second one!

  21. Love the rich color of your sweater. I've not knit enough sleeves to like or dislike it.

  22. I don't mind sleeves either......it means you are close to being able to wear it!!!

  23. Your Ginny yarn is such a lovely colour isn't it, I am sure that you will enjoy using it! Your sweater is a lovely colour as well! You do choose great colours for your projects, I always notice that! xx

  24. I love how you're on a sleeve. I think I always sigh when I know I have to get two of those done but it is what it is and I buckle down to it.

  25. I don't mind sleeves either. It just means I'm closer to finishing my sweater... ;-)

  26. I like sleeves too because they knit up fairly quickly. I love that yarn color. I am looking forward to seeing the finished sweater.

  27. Sleeves are one the reason I knit for myself. Store bought knits are too short in the arms, always. So even thought I might get bored towards the end I know why I need to do it! Your sweater is coming on really fast!

  28. I'm about to start a beautiful cowl and after that maybe, just maybe, I might try a sweater!!! (ack!)
as for reading...I just started Spark Joy.

  29. Not a big fan of sleeves- especially #2. Have fun- you are so close to being done :)

  30. I don't mind making sleeves, but when I am doing a sweater in the round, especially top down, I divide for the sleeves, use up the yarn to finish the skein, then put the body on hold and work on the sleeves so I don't have to manipulate as much bulk when doing them.

  31. I really don't mind sleeve knitting, especially if it means that I'm finishing up the sweater :)

  32. I quite like sleeves if I'm in the right mood for them. I prefer the second sleeve though because I can just follow my notes for how many decreases and which rows to do them on etc. First sleeves require more trying on and measuring for me. Having said that they do feel like they knit up much more quickly than the main body of the sweater which is fun

  33. I don't mind sleeves so much. If they have to be done in the beginning I knit two at a time, if they are last thing to be knit I am like you, I know that I'll get to the end after them so I quite like them...
