Spring time Memories

So then we wake, we turn the page of the calendar and poof -  it is now April!  I'm in disbelief that spring is in full swing.  On my walks, the trees are budding, lawns are greening and growing and the air feels different, fresh and breezy.

Spring time reminds me of my grandmother (my dad's mom).  She was born in May and just loved spring.  Her gardens burst forth will crocuses, hyacinths, tulips, lilies and daffodils, a sea of brilliant color.  Her six children would buy her a plant for Easter, her birthday and Mother's day every year.  The abundance of blooms were the result of some pretty gifts. She had a porch swing on springs so there was a swing-bounce, swing-bounce to the repetitive motion and she had a garden swing as well under two large trees where she could look at her home and her gardens.

The cushions on the swings were thick and comfy.  I would sit and swing, kicking up my feet daring to try to swing high.  I remember stitching up a photo of a cat in needlepoint on the garden swing and her sitting beside me admiring my work.  She too loved to stitch and create.

The first two photos are from my dad's garden and the last two are from my sister's house.  They both had a love of outdoors, growing flowers and vegetable gardens. This past Easter, we gathered and ate lots and lots of good food.  We sat outside on a swing and soaked in the sun. My dad and step mom bought me a hyacinth that will be planted in my garden later this month.  Some gatherings feel timeless and endless. And they feel full circle.

I wanted to add a little shout out to a company:  Handsome Fibers.  Last Monday one of my cables of my chiaogoo interchangeable needle set broke (sniff).  I messaged them that night and within 24 hours they shipped a replacement for me.  What service!!  I received the new cable on Thursday.

I have bought from them the 5 inch set and some 4 inch tips to expand my set.  I love these needles because of how pointy the tips are.  Anyways, if your looking for some needles and some awesome customer service check them out.

  1. Lovely photos (as always) and even lovelier memories. My grandmother had a glider on her porch where she taught me to knit. I can still recall the rhythmic squeaking and the comfy cushions she had sewn herself. I've also had the same great customer service from Handsome Fibers.

  3. Happy April 1 to you! I love the photo of the orchid. WOW! Lots of blooms on that one!

I also learned to stitch on a porch chair...my favorite aunt taught me to knit and my grandmother taught me to cross stitch. Those were simpler times!
