Capturing Autumn

This time next week I fear that the brilliant colors of fall will be finished.  Yesterday after a rainy morning, Frodo and I walked about capturing the colors, the leaves and the wonderment.  That is what I love most about photography, through the camera lens, I can focus on a beautiful moment, frame it, and make the moment permanent.

I love to have a camera on hand to catch those photo-worthy sights.  Then sometimes, I enjoy the freedom of being unharnessed to a camera and it's just me, watching, looking and free to think and feel without stopping and framing a scene.

This week the deer have been gathering in my yard daily.  Yesterday, a buck stood and lapped up some water from a puddle while a younger deer looked on.  I've counted up to five in group but I know there are many more.  When I'm outside, I hear rustling in the woods.  The deer are watching me while I watch them.  A mother nature game of hide and seek.

I had the pleasure of yarn shopping earlier this week for wool that wasn't at the ready in my stash.  I had fun, picking and choosing what was necessary and as always, I bought wool that was completely unnecessary.  The challenges that plague a knitter!

I hope if you are having Autumn, you are enjoying the wonderment.  I plan to get out and breathe that crisp air.  Also if you do a time change like I do, we get an extra hour!  I plan to read during that one blissful hour.  Maybe knit as well.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Lovely photos of fall as it winds down! I always think about the time change as giving me an extra hour of sleep, but I like your idea of using that gift of time for reading and knitting.

  2. Beautiful pictures of fall. I love this time of year, and we are having an unusually warm November which is kind of nice because I know the cold is coming and maybe lots of snow according to the almanac.

  3. What absolutely lovely photos, Karen! But, you are right - sometimes the joy of just being immersed in the beauty of this world without the need to "frame it and photograph it" is what I need. The photo of my minds eye is sometimes the best way to capture the moment.

Have a wonderful weekend. Looks like we are finally going to have some cooler temps -----I envision reading out on the porch and just watching the river roll by.

  7. We're enjoying a mild, vivid autumn -- the trees have been putting on quite the show, and I'm loving it. We, too, saw a buck in our yard; there is a small herd (not sure what constitutes a herd, though) down in our lower field. If we're out late, our headlights waken them when we pull into our gravel driveway. I order wool from Ginny yesterday and can't wait to receive it! A happy weekend to you :)

  8. We have been enjoying autumn as well and taking full advantage of its beauty. We had a great time in New Hampshire but were disappointed that we didn't see any moose, in spite of numerous moose crossing signs! : )
You pictures are beautiful, Karen. I am like you; sometimes I bring my camera along and other times I go without and just enjoy the view. xx

  11. We didn't have much of a display here this year. It was too dry toward the end of summer to make the colors pop. The leaves are all brown and mostly off the trees. We are picking up for the second time this weekend the leaves that cover our yard. Love your pictures! Thank you for sharing them here.

  12. A fun post to read. I wish we had more autumny trees here; we have some maple ones scattered about but their showings are nothing compared to the east coast's. I'm really pooped right now. I feel I still need to catch up on zzz's since Halloween. Husband is fighting a cold and I have another lurking sinus headache. Don't know if I'll attend Craft Night tonight.
