Currently on the Needles

I started a delightful test knit for Lisa from Happy in Dole Valley.  This knit is a sweet wee bonnet and I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am to be knitting with 100% wool!  I was working on an acrylic blend and while my hands felt fine, the texture was off.  There is something about natural fiber (wool!) that is a tactile delight.  In fact, I feel the urge to go out and buy some more wool to start some more quick holiday projects.

I finished my cowl and hat and posted yesterday.

I'm reading the same book, so far it's going good.  I find the switching back and forth from present to past a bit disjointed, however, I'm getting used to it.  I have no idea where this plot will take me and that is okay for now.  Since I'm knitting more, my reading becomes less.  Oh to find that balance.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. I agree about the feel of acrylic in my hands-feels unpleasant. I am beginning to feel that way about highly process wool yarn. I love the old wool, unprocessed and maybe even a little itchy ;-}. Have a great week!

  2. I love knitting with wool, unfortunately my two older kids decided that it feels too itchy, so I have been looking for alternatives. But, my youngest still loves the feel of wool...so maybe I should just knit for her :-)

  3. Oh yes, acrylic yarn. I used to think people were just being snobs about it, but now that I've got artritis I know they're not. It just feels different and often my hands hurt more when I knit with it. so I hunt for real wool, or blends that feel really soft.
I'm still knitting squares for potholders and I just finished reading The Daughter (since what you said about it sounded intriguing).

  7. The stitch pattern is beautiful! And, I agree with you completely on the joy that is knitting with wool! As for balance - this is why I am incredibly grateful for audio books! Knitting and reading combined perfectly!

  8. Knitting on a pair of socks, as usual. Reading: Jane Eyre and LOVING it. I read at least a chapter a night right before bed. Although I didn't make it through a whole chapter last night. I was super-tired after not sleeping at all the night before.

The pattern on the little bonnet is BEAUTIFUL!

  9. Your test knit looks great. I'm laughing at myself over your book choice. When you first posted it, everyone was commenting about wanting to read it because of the stack of books the girl is holding. Today, I noticed the one sleeve thing and have suddenly become fascinated. I'm putting the book in my reading que just to see if it's ever explained why she only has 1 sleeve. ha ha

  10. Baby bonnets are so stinking cute! I agree wool is amazing and so tactile.

I loved your cowl earlier this week also. Seems like something you could wear every day. Super cozy.

  11. I like to use a mix, whilst I do favour wool the price can sometimes be a little off putting particularly the amount I do.

  12. Hooray, wool! I love all the texture. I'm still chugging along on Mabel and I just finished reading "Detroit Hustle: A Memoir of Love, Life & Home."

  14. I think a bonnet is such a unique gift for a little one. I started my steampunk book after finishing my fantasy Kindle book last night. I will be casting on my NaKniSweMo jumper today finally - yay!

  15. Reading does take away from my knitting so Im not reading right now. I did enjoy Jen Hatmakers books, she is a funny thoughtful woman with encouraging words. BOnnets are THE cutest baby thing for girls !

  16. Lately I've read several books that bounce back and forth in time (WWII and now), and it does take a bit to settle in. My latest was "Those Who Save Us" which was a bit saucy for my liking, but I did like the way the story ended, so it was worth the ride. Love your knitting, dear Karen. ;) It's always a thrill to see my imaginations in someone else's stitching! xo
