Currently on the Needles

Apparently this is my sixth citron shawl, so says Ravelry.  I love this pattern immensely!  This shawl is my Christmas day cast on with some lovely wool that my sister bought for me on her vacation out west.  The yarn is wonderful to work with!!  I'm planning to make this shawl big and will need to add to the yarn but for now I'm happy with what I'm knitting.

I started a new book! Mosquitoland is a YA novel that my son said was pretty good.  Unfortunately my time to read is severely limited this week.  My house is full of family and more family will arrive over the weekend.

I finished Commonwealth and did not care for it.  The middle became interesting and I was completely invested.  The ending left me wondering all sorts of things. Overall, lots of people love this book (according to Goodreads) so I find myself thinking that maybe it is me?

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  2. I love the colors on the shawl. I have seen that book in the library at school and wondered about it. I am currently knitting some loom hats which I hope to donate and reading a book on my phone. Here is the funny thing - I have forgotten the name of the book and the name is not on the header of the page when I read it so I am not sure what I am reading. ;-) Have a great week!

  3. Oh my, that yarn is gorgeous. My favorite color. I will have to try that shawl someday. I will enjoy watching this shawl emerge, especially with that gorgeous dark shade. I have had some books that were highly recommended on Goodreads that I just didn't like. Maybe it is us.

  4. I love how you are coming back to the same patterns several times! I have so many projects planned that I never have time to repeat them... I think it is an amazing idea - you already know the pattern and there will be no unpleasant surprises! Happy happy holidays!

  10. I just started a new pair of socks . . . Sunday Swing and when I post them you had better put on your shades. They are BRIGHT!

I just finished Chestnut Street by Maeve Binchy and I haven't selected a new read yet, but it *might* be the World's Worst Cars. LOL

  15. You've talked me out of Commonwealth!
I admire all your Citrons. I knit one, but don't have the patience to knit more even though it is a beautiful pattern.

  18. That is one gorgeous skein of yarn. As for lack of reading time, you will catch up. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your family.

  19. I enjoyed the middle of Commonwealth as well, but felt is started and ended abruptly. Not you at all, it was a strangely constructed book that didn't work as well as it could have (in my opinion :))

  20. I love the yarn and I'm sure the shawl will be gorgeous! I do that sometimes - I get stalled on a pattern I really like and I keep wanting to see it in different colours or yarns, just to see how it works up.
I am curious about that book. I have really enjoyed several of Ann Patchett's others but a book podcast I really like mentioned a few weeks ago that it is a book that you should not go into expecting it to be like others of her books or you won't enjoy it. I'm nervous to start it but I do really enjoy some of her other reads...

  21. That does look like a fun shawl, and probably thanks to you, I have it in my pattern stash somewhere. Boy, I need to get organized. Love the color you've chosen for your project! And I'm interested in your comments on Commonwealth as I gave it to DH for Christmas. I just finished You Before Me and After You. We watched the movie of the first one, but the book is way better.
