Currently on the Needles

I was out of town over the weekend visiting my sister and my family.  Being the positive thinker that I am (ahem..) I brought both books along.  I did read but not very much.  Norwegian Wood is interesting and I feel like I've read this before.  So far the novel is captivating.

Alexander Hamilton is nearly finished.  I enjoy reading this and I am definitely planning on more history book reading in 2017.  After a nice long breezy break reading some plot driven books.  Who knew I'd like to read history?  I hated history in high school with an intense passion.  We age, we grow as humans and our tastes change.

I'm making steady progress on my gradient citron shawl.  I've added the above left over yarn since I ran out of gradient and want my shawl big.  Hopefully I like the way it looks and I'll keep going!!

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  4. Hamilton needs to be on my list to read this year and I am not sure why it is not! I have always been a lover of history and that has only grown as I age. Now math on the other had...

I can't wait to see your completed citron!

  5. I like reading history, but it's something I don't often read. Maybe I'll add Hamilton to my list and catch the history bug again. Love your shawl and looking forward to seeing how the next colour adds to it.

  6. Maybe I should try Norwegian Wood. I've started some of his other books and gotten stuck. He is not easy reading!

  7. I'm giving Hamilton a little rest, but he's not put away! Still enjoying him immensely. My citron ended up with only 7 increases....a healthy blocking made it a nice sized shawl, not the 10 increases I've done in the past, though. How many are you hoping to do???

  8. Your shawl is going to be so beautiful! I am also reading a history (of Russia) and will take a page from you and read it slowly, a few pages a day so that I can enjoy other books as I go.

  9. The shawl is lovely! I have found that I like histories much more now too.

  10. It must be something about aging & getting a little history of our own that makes us enjoy reading other's history more as adults. Your shawl is coming along beautifully. Good color choice for the extra yarn.

  11. I have Hamilton waiting on my shelf...gotta catch up on all my library books first!

  12. Glad to hear you are enjoying Murakami. I have to give history books a try! I hated physics and everything around it when I was at school, I just didn't get, but right now I am obsessed with Einstein's biography and all books by Stephen Hawking :)

  13. When I visited Mt. Rushmore as a kid I thought it was so boring. My husband and I went there together a few years ago and it was a totally different experience. I would love to spend some time in DC visiting the monuments.

  14. I am so glad you will be able to salvage your gorgeous shawl!!!

Also, I started reading Mosquitoland based on one of your prior reads...half way through and liking it quite a bit.

  15. Im knitting socks. I am a sock nut I LOVE the citron pattern Can't wait to see yours . Fireman read Lost in the WILD by Griffith. A story of two hikers lost in the BOundary waters canoe area. I was part of a trip there in High school so I know the setting. For Fireman to read and finish it so quickly is a great testament.

  16. As soon as I saw the photograph I texted Mary and asked her to FINALLY send me the Chernow book! : ) We were with her on Saturday but she'd left it at work (again)...I'm beginning to think she doesn't want to part with it!

Of course, I could just go to the library, but that would be too easy!

The shawl is looking wonderful. I am beginning a baby's blanket. I think I read Norwegian Wood a while ago but can't remember the plot. I'm at that age where I buy a book only to find that I've already read it! It happens more than I want to admit. I am really enjoying Louise Penny's Detective Gamaché series, easy reading and entertaining!

  18. Your Citron is lovely! Such a beautiful gradient! We read a lot of History and Historical Fiction for our school read aloud, I thought my children would get bored and tired of it, but we have enjoyed it, for the most part. I'll have to check out the Alexander Hamilton book and read it for myself, we aren't quite there in our studies yet ;)

  20. I am knitting mittens and hats for my little grandsons. I am reading Extreme Vinyl Cafe, a collection of short stories by Canadian author and humorist, Stuart McClean. Light reading that is making me smile. He reminds me of Garrison Keillor. The shawl looks great.
I listened to The Bully Pulpit recently - nonfiction about T. Roosevelt, Howard Taft, and journalist of McClure's magazine. It was a little long but an interesting look at a that time in history.

  24. Your shawl is really coming along, the yarn is such a beautiful array of colour. Looking forward to seeing it finished in all its glory.

  25. I cannot wait to see the Citron finished in all its beautiful gradient glory. Choosing an "extra" yarn is always a trial and error for me. Ha! I went through a little reading spree just before Christmas... then just started back with other activities. All through my youth and first half of adulthood I could NOT get enough to read. I think the change is a lot that my eyes tire so easily now. When I see all that you and Steph are reading, I miss it. Have a wonderful day, Karen. blessings ~ tanna

Can't wait to see your finished shawl.
