Weekends

How was your weekend?  The weather was quite bizarre for us in PA.  We had beautiful views of lots of snow, then warming temps, then all day rain with the threat of sleet and freezing rain.  Last night, I heard the mighty winds and I prayed that I would keep my electricity.  So far, so good!

Friday night, my husband and I went out to dinner and caught up on his day at work.  We started talking of some vacation plans but so far they are only discussions.  The calendar has to cooperate as well!

On Saturday morning we drove to State College to have lunch with our son and I had every intention to take some photos, then forgot!  The weather was a balmy 57 degrees!  What a delight to be teased with spring time weather.  We had a great time together and the visit was short.  Once we returned home, we quickly took Frodo for a walk at 4:15 p.m.  The sun is setting later and later - I'm grateful.

On the car ride, I worked on the socks in the first photo.  The colorway is quite frustrating.  I started the second sock THREE times to get that stripe to swirl.  I know it's not me because I've made dozens of socks in my life and have never ever had this problem.  Oh well.

Yesterday, finished making my Mr. Basil Fox.  He has ears, and a nose and some dapper clothing sewn by me.  While making him was "easy", the clothes were quite challenging because of how tiny they are.  I pulled out my sewing machine (Singer--1957) and fell quickly into a rhythm of cutting, pressing, sewing and snipping.

Let's just say my talents are in knitting!

How was your weekend?

  2. What a nice weekend...and what strange weather in PA, huh? The winds last night (and today) are awful! Love your Mr. Fox...I've been tempted to get one of Alicia's kits but have yet to give in to temptation!!

  6. Such a treat to finally be able to stop back by and say hi. Of course I love your shawl your finished last week (or so), Mr. Basil Fox is TOO CUTE it makes my heart ache just to look at him, and I know you are just delighting in that cold, snowy (awful, in my opinion...) weather. A bummer the socks gave you trouble, but better to have sock trouble than Real Problems, I guess. Much love to you on this cold day. Enjoy your upcoming blizzard, as I know you will. (I will be over here, hunting for blooming daffodils!)

  8. I'm glad that you had opportunity to have lunch with your son on Saturday. Our weather here was beautiful...59 degrees and melted every last bit of snow we had!

Mr. Basil Fox is adorable! And his clothes are so cute! I know what you mean about how tedious it is to work with the clothing because of how small it is. I used to make Barbie doll clothes for our daughter's dolls when she was young.

Glad you had a good weekend! We did, too. We worked out at the gym together Friday evening, had breakfast out on Saturday morning and then did some shopping to stock up on baking supplies. Then Sunday we started feeling the effects of the storm that started on Saturday night.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
    xx

  11. That little fox is adorable! Nice work. We've had blue skies for the past couple of days, but it's been right chilly. Our weekend was a quiet one.

  12. Ooh! Mr. Fox is so dapper. I love his cool threads. What a fun project for you; how great to have a nice change. Have you looked up your sock yarn on Ravelry to see how it's used and how it comes out in socks?

    1. I thought it clever how you split up your two books a day. I tend to read a chapter or few at once in one book and then the same in the other book. I have two reads goin' on right now and I know there are holds for them. Thank you for all the well wishes. I look forward to knitting little garments this 2017. May need to start soon even though I haven't finished my jumper or the tween's.

    2. I've knit with this Trekking XXL many many times and it's the first time ever that I'm not happy with how the colors display themselves. I think I got the odd skein of yarn or maybe I'm too picky??

  13. Sometimes yarn just doesn't behave. I don't like it when that happens. I think the socks look quite toasty warm though.

  14. Your Mr. Basil Fox turned our perfectly...adorable! Lots of patience with those tiny sewing projects. Sounds like a perfect weekend of crafting, family, and warmer temps! We are having spring-like weather here in Colorado too. 80 degrees last Friday! Just right for working on some new patterns in the sun....in February!?!
