Weekends

Another weekend almost finished, doesn't it seem like they come slowly and end too quickly?  My weekend was wonderful even though the rain was prevalent and the sunshine was mostly absent.

Yesterday morning, I woke up and saw the sun briefly and thought 'this is going to be a great day'.  I dressed in capris and we went out to some garage sales.  After returning home and having a bite to eat, Frodo and I went out for daily walk.  By the time I came home and rested a bit, I changed those capris into jeans.  The temperature dropped nearly nine degrees since waking.

My husband and I attended Saturday night Mass then picked up a pizza for dinner (delicious!).  Later in the evening we watched a few more episodes of Parenthood.  Family drama is entertaining when it isn't your own.

Today, I spent the better part of the day doing my continuing education which I started on Thursday.  I passed all five on-line tests.  Phew.  I'm thrilled to check that task off my list.

I started reading "The Handmaid's Tale" and wonder if I will like the content, the writing is beautiful so far.  I would LOVE to watch the hulu show, but I know it's too disturbing for me based on the reviews.  The written word has less impact on my sensitivities than a visual movie with the music and camera shots.  I'll keep you up to date on my progress.

I have a cup of tea waiting for me and I'll be adding more ribbing to my sweater.  One more inch should do it, I think.

How was your weekend?

  1. I had a fairly busy weekend putting together supplies for a baby shower I'm hosting in a few weeks. Hanging out with the family in the backyard and then watch my friend perform in his ballroom showcase. It was an excellent weekend!

  3. That brown yarn in your sweater is beautiful! A damp and chilly weekend is a good one for reading, knitting, and watching family drama (as long as it's not your own!). I'll be very interested to see what you think of The Handmaid's Tale; I read it years ago, but for some reason I've been afraid that it would be too disturbing to re-read.

  4. I went to my first Sheep and Wool festival. I was probably one of the few that didn't buy any yarn. So much beautiful yarn but very overwhelming. I did get two project bags and a few other small things. I am almost finished with The Handmaid's Tale. This is one of those books I'll be thinking about for awhile.

  5. Sounds like a wonderful weekend. I started to dig our way out of the cottage. There are some beautiful stone steps that have been neglected for many years so I am trying to dig them out, a large task that will take sometime.

  6. Our weekend was chilly, too - had to get long pants and long sleeves out again for walking. I'm with you on not being able to watch Handmaid's Tale - just reading about it is hard enough (I did love the book).

  8. Your weekend sounds wonderful, Karen! I admire you for continuing your education on line...and passed all five tests with 100! Congratulations! Ours was good as well. Hubby went to an auction on Friday evening, but I chose to stay home....no dishes for sale, you know. haha He was able to get what he wanted at an extremely good price so that when he needs to get on the roof now he will be much safer. Saturday I spent working continually on the scrapbook project. I actually will finish it up tomorrow completely! Setting those self-imposed goals really does help. Saturday evening we went out to dinner. Yesterday I woke up not feeling well, so I had to stay in from church, but hubby went. Feeling much better today.

  10. Parenthood is such a great show; I cry every episode. I thought the Handmaid's Tale was about helping women give birth; how wrong I was. I saw its trailer on IG and oh boy was it gritty it was.

  11. Parenthood is a great show. Always need a box of tissues handy.
I am watching the Handmaid's Tale and yes it is disturbing but I am hooked. The acting, everything is excellent.

  12. Your weekend sounds lovely. The weather is all over the board - everywhere. Spring for sure. That sweater is coming along swimming-ly. Is that a word? Isn't it interesting that some stories are too disturbing but reading the book is tolerable? It is not like I can shut my eyes while reading a book (like at the movies) but maybe I read the disturbing parts more quickly or skim over them?

  14. The Handmaid's Tale - scariest book ever written! I love Stephen King type horror but The Handmaid's Tale scared me more than any Stephen King book ever could. As for the weather.... it was 90 degrees here last week then suddenly the temperature dropped & we are back to hitting the 30's at night & my Christmas cactus has gone from a drooping mess back to getting ready to bloom again! Crazy! And as always, your knitting is beautiful!
