Current Gratitudes and News

I've been sitting on a secret that I've been dying to tell you for about two weeks.  My daughter and son in law will be relocating from Santa Barbara, CA to somewhere in Delaware (exact location unknown) by the beginning of October!  Yes!  I am still in disbelief.

They will live approximately three hours away - by car.  This is my first gratitude.  As for the rest, they are:

-getting to the second section of the chart of the white out shawl.  For me it seems like it took forever, maybe because I ripped out the entire first section.  Sadly, the lace chart has stitch manipulation on both right and wrong side rows, I love when the purl side is a free ride of not-thinking and I'm missing that component.

-I've been killing the puzzles lately these days.  We switched to an online local paper in January and I print out the Sunday puzzles which are doable for me compared to the NYT's crossword puzzle.  I like feeling smart.

-thank you for all the blanket love!  I enjoyed reading your comments and you celebrating with me having the long term project finished.

-the black walnut tree leaves are falling - squee!!!

-darker mornings and darker evenings - both hinting at the arrival of autumn.

-the absence of a worry - these are the days I want to bottle up and remember for when I'm swamped with a niggling thought.  Don't worry, I'm writing them down.  I celebrate the knowledge I have of valuing my contented carefree days.  All days should be like this.

What are you grateful for this week?  I'd love to know!

  1. That is incredible, wonderful news! I am so happy for you and your whole family. Your whiteout shawl is looking beautiful, I love the origami snail (I'm guessing your son made it), and seeing your sock blanket ready for some cooler fall weather! Life is indeed good with lots to be grateful for.

  3. It's wonderful that you will be closer to your daughter. I like the Victorian book you are reading. I'm reading Cranford which takes place during the first part of the Victorian age. They sure did things a lot differently back then! I've never made a shawl that has pattern on both sides. I think that would drive me crazy. I need the purl rows to rest my brain. I am grateful to be retired so I can sew, knit, cook, read, etc. and still get that check every month. HA!

  10. Oh, I would love having my family 3 hours away! Right now, they are 12! My husband has family in Delaware - his one sister, his Mom, before she passed away...and tons of other relatives live there too. And now his niece and her husband, who were living about 45 minutes from us - just bought a house there...

  11. That is awesome news! I'm trying to savor the last bits of summer. In less than two weeks my daughter will head to college, my son will start high school, and I'll be back to working my school year schedule. I know these changes will be an adjustment. I'm hoping the gratitude list I'm making now will help when stress and worry creep into my mind. I like your Wade figurines.

  21. I'm so happy to hear your family is moving closer. That's exciting! It's also exciting to hear that you've finished your blanket. Obviously, I've missed a post or two. We've been without internet service for several days and I'm slightly twitchy from the experience. :)

  22. This post filled me with happiness.♥ I'm so glad that your daughter will be moving within a nice car ride away (think of all the knitting you can do if your husband drives!). Your shawl looks really lovely (do you know that yellow is my favorite color?). And, that little origami snail! I bet your son made it. It's wonderful--as are your photos and all of your gratitudes. Right now I'm grateful for sweet corn, the nearness of my dear ones, having 'enough', a good book, pen and paper, and carefree days. Much love to you, Karen.♥
