Family and Friend Connections

Summer is leaving and autumn is arriving, just look at those leaves falling.  I go outside with Frodo and we explore the yard.  He's sniffing to see who's been around (deer, squirrel, skunk, raccoon, rabbit, bear..) and I take in the beauty of a season emerging.

Yesterday was stressful.  I woke up early like always and received a text from my son-in-law that my daughter was in ER.  The doctors quickly diagnosed appendicitis and scheduled surgery for later that morning.  I was tethered to texts, receiving news and spreading news, asking for prayers.

All is well so far, she stayed overnight and the surgeon is pleased with the surgery.  Since she is in CA, the time difference is three hours, so I'm waiting for when she wakes up and texts me this morning.  She is supposed to be discharged today, fingers crossed.

I am thankful for my connections to my family and friends through texts and messaging.  What a blessing to have technology be a help.  Each text received uplifting my spirits and managing my stresses.

I frequently bemoan how technology is a distraction, a wait of time and crowds out my being creative and productive.  I'll waste time reading news feeds or other such nonproductive pursuits. Today I'm here to say, thank you technology!  Thank you for tethering me to important people and helping me through a stressful day.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  I've got some fun things planned and cannot wait to share them with you on Sunday night.

  1. I'm sorry your daughter had appendicitis, but am glad it was diagnosed quickly and also glad for technology! I took my mil to the hospital for some planned surgery this morning, and one of the nurses told her not to worry, it was just minor surgery. The anesthesiologist was also there and he said he realized it's never "just minor" when it's someone you love. Sending good thoughts and prayers for your daughter and you!

  2. So glad your daughter is ok. Scary when your loved ones are far away and "something" happens. Technology really can be wonderful (at times). Hope your weekend can be relaxing.

  3. Sending wishes for a speedy recovery for your daughter. It is so hard to be far away from them when they have problems. Glad surgery went well.

We are going up to PA in Oct. I'm thinking we are going to miss all the pretty colors. Sounds like fall is starting early this year.

  7. Glad to hear your daughter is on the road to recovery, we have many things to be thankful for and technology is certainly one of them. This week 2 of our Grandchildren started school for the first time and I was able to see them in their school uniforms and talk to them, what a joy. Sending you a hug in the hope it will be a comfort.

  8. So glad your daughter is healing!! My Mom is now in a nursing home...due to a broken hip. She has dementia on top of all of that. My sister has been video chatting with me on FB so I can see my Mom and watch some of her therapy and so on. Being 540 miles away, it has helped me a bit.... So I'm really grateful for technology!!

  9. So glad the surgery went well. Both Hubster and I nearly had burst appendix, his had just perforated, mine was close. Neither of us had normal symptoms. It's just due to smart Drs that they went in and took them out. Although I hate seeing the leaves in my garage, I LOVE the leaves turning and falling!

  11. I had the same thoughts about cyberspace etc today. Thank GOD. She'll be sore but she should be good to go now. Its a quick surgery but no surgery is easy as anesthesia works in wild ways. Hope her post op recovery is smooth. Hugs
