The Fair

We had the opportunity to attend the fair this past week.  Ah, nothing like the sights and sounds of excitement.  I grew up without a fair since I grew up in the city.  I love the rural life I live and never tire of the blue ribbons awarded to gardeners and crafters.  I did not enter any of my knits, I never do.
Truth is I'm too lazy to drive them there and pick them up!  However, I can appreciate other people's talents and I can get some nifty ideas.

The downsize of attending the fair is the after effects of eating non-healthy food.  Sigh.  I need a salad, I crave a salad!  Thank goodness this event only happens once a year.  My body requires a year to recover from the decadence.

If you know me at all, you know I gravitate to the barns to see the animals.  Sheep and goats are my absolute favorites.  My husband would love to own some farm animals - I just like the daydreaming portion but I doubt the reality of tending farm animals would be easy and carefree.  I believe it's work.

My week has been busy.  My daughter and son in law are both here - every day we have something going on and it's been fun having a full schedule, full table setting at dinner time.  I find pockets of time to pick up my knitting so the second sleeve is still seeing progress.

Oh hey!  The temperatures are down to regular fall-like feels.  It's about time, I was cold yesterday when the sunset and that was a feeling I'd like to bottle up and keep close to my heart forever.  Maybe just maybe we are done with those pesky heat waves.

  1. I love our Fairs, the small county ones and then our State Fair/ But the best Festival of all is this coming week!! And I am driving 3 hours south to get back home to be there for a few days. Evansville, IN has a West Side Nut Club Fall Festival which is 5 long city blocks full of food, rides, and games. State Fair on steroids!! They say it is the 2nd largest street festival in the US, next to Mardi Gras. I can believe it!! Each year booths try to come up with something new and different, chocolate crickets, chocolate covered bacon, and the perennial favorite, brain sandwiches. I go for walking tacos, elephant ears, chicken n' dumplings, huge red velvet cupcakes!!

  2. Going to the fair when the temperatures are cool is wonderful! It's usually sweltering when ours is held and I feel so sorry for the animals. Enjoy your salad and your weekend!

  6. Im not entirely sure that a farm animal is not in our future. I love the FAIR. I waited all year to have a very unhealthy Cream Puff . I ate it ALL myself. Last year I did shared with Fireman and only had one bite. For now, cats...and borrowed horses

  8. I love a good fair, I like to visit the animals and then all the craft competitions. I don't enter them either. I do enjoy eating the home bakes and then feeling guilty for days.

  12. I have a soft spot for farm animals, especially sheep. However, like you I suspect in reality they would take more time and energy than I'm willing to give. Going to fairs and looking at them over fences will have to do :)
