Knitting News

Hello!  How is your knitting or crafting going?  Mine has come to a screeching halt because of Holly the Rescue Kitten.  However, yesterday I was blissfully working on the sweater for about an hour and my stress lessened.   That is a signal from the universe to knit more, worry less.  I hear you universe!

I finished another gift hat a few days ago.  Notice how skillfully I photoed the hat without showing the messy desk.  I need to get in that room and clean it up before all the family arrives.  I'm done with hat knitting for now.  I've started a pair of socks for my daughter but forgot to snap a photo yesterday.

Holly update:  She had her first wellness visit on Monday and gained 2 oz in 48 hours.  The vet guesses she is 8 weeks old.  She did not receive any shots because she isn't fully well enough, we are scheduled to go back right before Christmas for that.  She is being de-wormed.  She had her first bath yesterday - wow!  What a difference in the smell.  She is being treated for an eye infection as well.  On Thursday night we can apply flea and tick treatment.

I am itchy all over whenever I talk about her and her bugs.  But we do like her.  Frodo is adjusting and this will be a L O N G process I fear.  What have we done?

  1. You've rescued Holly and I have to believe that fleas, worms, work and adjustment for Frodo will be worthwhile in the end. Don't all knitters need a cat? :-)

  2. You gave an adorable kitty a chance for a better life. Thank you. As for Frodo, make sure his routines don't change, show him that the new pet will not change his life (too much), give him lots of attention, cuddles and treats, and he will slowly come around to accepting the new critter. When we introduced 5 kittens to 2 adult cats it was fairly easy, but when we got one new kitten and introduced him to 7 adults, that was a different story.

  3. You have brought a new adventure, new love, a new life into your fold. Frodo will have a new challenge, but he will learn to love her.

  4. I only recently discovered your blog and what a treat. I admire you and your husband for adopting the abandoned kitten. You will both fall totally in love with that little ball of fur. (Even Frodo eventually.) You have the best of both worlds now - a dog and a cat. The world needs more people like you!

  5. I love the color of that hat. And yes, knitting helps with stress, though I noticed that I sometimes feel so stressed that I can't get myself to sit down and knit.
Glad to hear Holly is doing well!

  9. I think you have done a simply marvelous thing. And, fleas are easily banished. As our mothers would say, this too shall pass.

  10. What have you done? You've given a beautiful kitten a family and home. She is safe and sound, such a lucky girl. What a blessing that you found her. I wondered if she had an eye infection, you could sort of tell in the photographs of her. Karen, you and your husband are such wonderful people! xx

  11. As Elizabeth Zimmerman said, "knitting soothes the troubled soul and it doesn't hurt the untroubled soul either," or something to that effect. Sounds like Holly is on the mend thanks to you and your husband and the vet. Onward and upward.

  12. What have you done? Well, just added about the cutest little kitty in the world to your house. You added a little furball that probably would have died out there in the cold. You added immesurable love that only a purring kitty can give.

And somewhere down the road .....you added a little friend for Frodo to snuggle with. I'm SURE it will happen.

I'm so glad to read that everything *wrong* with Holly will be easily fixed. Giroux came with all those troubles too. I think it is just what happens to cats "on the street".

    1. Yeah, the vet said round worm is the 'common' worm to have as a baby. No ear mites and at least it was 'only' fleas...

  13. Holly is adorable! I’ll say a prayer for her continued growth and wellness and of course one for you and Frodo and this new journey! I’m glad you were able to knit some today. My crafting has been sporadic. I’m not making any gifts this year so no deadlines to worry about.

  14. I think this sweet little kitty has a real guardian angel and you received your Christmas present early! This is such a touching story. I do hope that Holly continues to gain back her strength and get accustomed to her new home. Lilly is sending "meows" to little Holly. Pat :)

  15. Yes, knitting is so calming (except when I make a mistake - lol). And Holly is so sweet. like others, I believe she and Frodo will become the best pals together. Sending healing wishes for her. Just being with you and feeling your love will be a huge boost to her.

  16. You've done a wonderful and kind thing. I still hold that she and Frodo will become best buds. YES, knitting is a salve for the soul. I was looking at all those "fidget toys" for children these days and I said I've had my own fidget toys for years: knitting needles! ha! Your projects are beautiful, Karen. blessings ~ tanna

  17. You've done a very good thing. I know that she will become part of your family and Frodo will learn to enjoy her company. Animals do like company, we've found.
Good luck with the decluttering! I need a lot of help in that area.
