Knitting News

Good morning and it's the new year as well!  I'm sitting at my kitchen table wearing gym clothes and writing up this knitting post.  My knitting has picked up a bit, finally.  I find pockets of time each day to do many rows on the mittens.  Such fun to see the pattern emerge, and I hope that a gentle blocking will ease those bumpy knit stitches here and there (I think it will).

My son in law's sweater is getting to the secret sauce of pattern knitting - JOY!  After all that stockinette, I'm thrilled to be patterning and following directions.  Let's hope I continue to have smooth sailing with this knit.

I've been reading Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng.  This has been on my to read list forever and I finally bought a copy.  So far it's a great read and I'm captivated by the various points of view by family members reflecting on a relative's unexpected suicide.  It's not as depressing as it sounds.

I'm also reading on my Kindle A Rule Against Murder by Louise Penny.  I love her writing and revisiting the same characters.  Just started the book so I haven't formed an opinion yet.

What are you knitting and reading?

  4. I love those mittens! So pretty! I'm doing my very first project with different colors and I can't wait to get to the point where I can do a pattern like yours.
I read Ng's book awhile back but I need to re-read it. I'm curious about Little Fires Everywhere.

  5. Get those mittens done so your hand stay warm in that frigid air! They're going to be lovely. The sweater looks great, too and it must feel good to be back to your knitting and reading.

  8. I loved Everything I Never Told You! I’m reading her new book, Little Fires Everywhere and it’s really good. Aren’t the Gamache novels fun? I’ve read them all and love all the characters!

I am knitting a shawl but am struggling. I’ve thought about quitting and giving away all my yarn but am stubborn and am persevering. I’ve started it three times already! Maybe this time will be the charm. 😊

  9. I'm still working on a pullover vest and just cast on a MKAL of fingerless mitts! My first mitts. I'm excited! As for books, I recently finished The Heart by Maylis de Kerangal. So so. And, am TRYING to get through The Paradigm by Jonathan Cahn. I really enjoy his book, The Harbinger, but am struggling to finish this one. Your sweater and mittens are LOVELY. Happy knitting and reading. blessings ~ tanna

  11. The mittens are lovely, but I love seeing the close-up of the Son in Law's sweater. The yarn/colorway is really lovely, I can appreciate the subtle heathering? in it. I have heard a lot of buzz about the Celeste Ng book but have not really been drawn to it, because it sounded rather depressing to me. Thank you for the reassurance. I'll put it back on the list, though admittedly a bit down the queue ;) Wishing you well.

  15. I need to make more time to read. I was immersed in cardstock yesterday and by the time I knit it's 7 p.m.

  16. Happy New Year. It is almost to hot to knit here, but we are expecting hurricane strength winds and 8 metre high waves, which is going to batter a lot of the country over the next 48 hours. Hoping this brings down the hideous humidity! Loving your mittens and I might add that book to my to buy / TBR pile.

  19. Those mittens look warm and toasty. The knitting looks quite even in the photo but if not a little steam will even out any pulled stitches. It definitely is mitten weather. I've enjoyed the Louise Penny books although I think the first four were the best.

  26. Happy New Year Karen!

Your knitting projects are divine! Love the mittens.

I am trying to wrap up some socks, started a new shawl, and am ignoring my lace tee. The usual.

And I am in total agreement, endless stockinette drives me batty. I get too easily bored without a pattern to follow! Your pictures and blog is always lovely to see and read!
