Knitting News and a Hat

I've made significant progress on my sister's sweater.  She is an awesome sister so she deserves a sweater, right?  Right.  I am one third of the way done.  How do I know?  Well the sweater uses three skeins of Madeline Tosh Sock and I've used up the first skein.  I love simple maths...

I've made this sweater many times, my latest is this one.  My sister tried it on last summer and fell in love with the fit.  So, I decided to cast one on after she chose her yarn.

In other news, I cast on a hat from my own imagination and went with it.  I love a folded brim for a hat for some extra warmth and I created a simple knit two, purl two design broken by a purl row.  Easy peasy.

In reading news, I'm still involved with the sixth Gamache book by Louise Penny, Bury your Dead.  I could finish it today if I focused and didn't do anything else, like cook a dinner.  I have Beartown sitting and staring at me waiting for me to dive in.  I am excited to read this novel!

Also in the reading line up is Anne Lamott's Hallelujah Anyway.  She makes me smile and laugh and believe in people and the strength of faith.

What are you reading and knitting this week?

  1. That's a lovely hat! Do you mind if I "steal" (with credit of course) the design for one of my own?
And knitting a sweater for your sister... wow! I never made it past scarfs and hats as presents ;-)

  6. Love the colors for both the sweater and the hat. Clever design for your hat. Inspector Gamache is one of my most favorite characters EVER. I have an Anne Lamott book or two, but have never read them...I should do so.

  13. Your hat turned out great! There's a baby hat pattern that I like to play with - adding my own designs as a 10 stitch repeat. Fun, isn't it?

  15. Wow, knitting a sweater in sock weight yarn. I may have to do that one day as I have tons of sock yarn projects are a bit limited in that area. I do have in the back of my mind, wanting a Madtosh Vintage sweater, a Quince & Co one, and a Malabrigo one.

  16. I just love the color of the yarn you are using for your sister's sweater, Karen. Such a beautiful blue. I finished my very first crocheted shawl, and it turned out beautiful. I am pretty proud of it, because it was considered an advanced pattern! :-)

    Happy Sunday to you!
