Weekends

Hello!  Another weekend has come and gone, I hope yours was delightful!  We visited our daughter and son in law in Delaware on Saturday and had a fantastic time.  I didn't take photos while we were together but I've managed to document some of my quiet moments. I worked only on my hat as photoed above.  I love the fair isle knitting portion immensely.  Above is my grand-kitty named 'Meiko' but they call her 'kitty'.  She is around 8-9 years old and they adopted her a year ago (ish).  She is a very vocal kitty! Our Saturday was a ton of shopping where I bought another paint set and some used books.  We had a lovely dinner at a Thai restaurant then came back to their place for birthday cake, even though my birthday is later this month. I need a detox from the sugar consumption!! Sunday morning we went to Kennet Square to a craft/antique market and I found my very favorite new mug!  Moose and yarn!  We didn't have time to explore the town s

owl at the festival How was your weekend?  Mine was a mixture of being laidback and having fun.  On Saturday morning, I drove to a nearby country store to begin my Christmas shopping for my side of the family.  I managed to buy gifts for many on my list and of course I indulged on a few gifts for myself. In the afternoon we spontaneously decided to go to a neighboring town's festival and had a great time walking around with manageable crowds.  We ate unhealthy food (!).  The weather was perfect with a light jacket.  Sunday morning the deer were in my yard.  They are so bold, I can walk right up and snap photos as they stare at me.  They always come around this time of year because all too soon deer hunting season will start and I guess they know my yard is a no kill zone.  Deer are smart.  I'm interested to see what they will eat in my yard now that we planted deer resistant bushes. We took a walk down the dirt road with Frodo and I noticed the leaves are

This weekend was full of fun, my kids all came in and we attended a nearby fair.  Every year I look forward to going and every year my body gives out in some fashion.  Getting old is for the birds!  I prefer to go on a rainy day (less people) but the kids can only come on a Saturday.  Of course it was over 80 degrees! There is not much 'heathy food' at the fair but I managed to each food I didn't regret.  I always get some french fries and a slice of pizza.  Instead of the evil funnel cake, I opted for an apple dumpling.  There is apple in the apple dumpling so it's sort of healthy, right? Our son was agreeable for an impromptu photo shoot!  If he moves far away I'll be sad (but I will manage like I always do). Sunday morning the kids left after lunch in stages.  I cleaned the bathrooms, stripped the beds and did more laundry.  The house is back to being tidy until the next visit. We are still in the 80s but all too soon the temps will be dropping.

Where I Went

Image
Last weekend my husband and I drove north to the Endless Mountain fiber festival for the day.  I was unable to attend last year due to his dad passing and our trip up to Canada for a gravesite service. I was excited to once again return to this small but exciting event. Two years ago when I attended my sister and brother in law were with us and we had so much fun.  This year, I focused on enhancing my stash with what was lacking.  I steered away from alpaca (for no particular reason, I have it in stash).  I was interested in natural unprocessed fibers or unusual fiber blends. This is what I bought: yakity-yak wool by Skirted Fleece Mill summer breeze by Gurdy Run Woolen Mill two skeins of mohair blends by Holly Road Fiber Farm I hope to have these entered into my Ravelry stash soon. Of course, I'm itching to start something new, but I need to finish a few projects already started.   We had a quick packed lunch on a bench (I wasn't feeling too

Weekends

Another weekend has come and gone once again.  This past weekend my favorite (only) sister and brother in law come for a visit.  We had great fun!  Friday night we had dinner at home then my sister and I went out to do a bit of shopping.  Once home we relaxed.  I did my knitting and she did her crocheting.  Saturday morning we all headed out for a neighboring town's street festival.  I found some gifts to give for family and enjoyed strolling about looking at the creative pursuits of other people.  There were quite a few wood turners, pottery, and jewelry.  We did not eat any of the food but headed back home for lunch. My sister and I spent the afternoon painting having the best time ever.  I am tentative and cautious in my watercoloring and she is bold and adventurous.  We made a big mess! The above picture is a collaborative effort.  She did the watercoloring and said it needed something, so I took a pen and inked away.  My sister gave me a wee little fram

The Fair

Image
We had the opportunity to attend the fair this past week.  Ah, nothing like the sights and sounds of excitement.  I grew up without a fair since I grew up in the city.  I love the rural life I live and never tire of the blue ribbons awarded to gardeners and crafters.  I did not enter any of my knits, I never do. Truth is I'm too lazy to drive them there and pick them up!  However, I can appreciate other people's talents and I can get some nifty ideas. The downsize of attending the fair is the after effects of eating non-healthy food.  Sigh.  I need a salad, I crave a salad!  Thank goodness this event only happens once a year.  My body requires a year to recover from the decadence. If you know me at all, you know I gravitate to the barns to see the animals.  Sheep and goats are my absolute favorites.  My husband would love to own some farm animals - I just like the daydreaming portion but I doubt the reality of tending farm animals would be easy and carefree.  I belie

Weekends are for memory making,  relaxing and enjoying quiet moments of our days.   If you would like, please share your weekend moments    in the comment section with a link to your blog. This weekend we went to the Endless Mountain Fiber Festival .  I love the sights and sounds of this festival.  There are the animals that are fluffy soft and adorable, each one beckoning us to visit and pet.  My husband took some photos then I took some.  He is patient while I browse and shop the stalls.  He joined in the spirit of the festival by requesting a "thin scarf".  Thin as in fingering weight thin.  I am only too eager to knit something and then we proceed to look for the yarn for his scarf.  He chose a dark purple that will look fantastic. I am drawn to mute greens and yellows and oranges and browns....Earth tones.  So while I was there I had to buy something but I was trying not to buy "my" colors.  Branch out from my comfort color zone.

Cardigan Progress and the Mug

Image
Good morning all, how are you?  I'm doing great even though it's been days since the sun beamed its rays for more than a minute or two.  I never thought that sunshine was so important to me, but apparently it is.  I'm craving it. Lucky for me, I have my knitting and boy have I been knitting a lot.  I finished all the repeats for the sleeves of my Hitofude cardigan and today will be the undoing of my provisional cast on.  This is the crocheted provisional cast on that I looked up in my 211 ways to cast on and bind off book because the last sweater I just used scrap yarn and improvised.  I do not recommend improvising, it will be your downfall. If something is worth doing right, well, do it the right way, right??  Where was my smarter self when I needed her? And because many of you asked to see my new favorite tea mug, here she is!  (I think tea mugs would be a she).  I have had many mugs of tea and so far I'm tickled.  I love the wide base so I can p
