Changing Colors

Good morning to you! How has your week been? Are you soaking up the last bits of summer? I have been very excited this week for many reasons. My knitting has been good, I'm enjoying my projects and that sock yarn in the above photo is soft in my hands. I keep forgetting to mention the bag in the photo was made by my sister many years ago. It's my go to sock project bag because CATS.

My big news this week is the photo above. Look at that dogwood tree changing colors. Autumn is creeping in and I'm all here for it. Also that deer is a bold one, she stands and waits until I'm practically right up to her before it snorts and runs away. Frodo would love to chase her! The flowering apple trees in the backyard are dropping leaves as well.

On my daily walks, I focus on my five senses (a mindfulness technique) and now I have an added goal - seeking out signs of fall. The crisp air is delicious and being chilly is so nice.

For Mother's Day this year my sister gifted me a beautiful begonia. At first it was on the patio table and didn't get enough sunshine so it became sad. Then we planted it in a bed and the roofers stepped on it repeatedly (I'm assuming accidentally) and broke it apart (more sadness). My husband repotted it and now it's finally happy and blooming like crazy.

Yesterday we went to the Carnegie Natural History Museum and ambled about. I love museums and how massive they are. When they first open, attendance is sparse and it feels like it's your own personal showing. We had a great time!

I hope you have something fun planned this weekend and that life is awesome in the most ordinary of ways.

  1. Oh I love that turtle!! Very cool. Pittsburgh has so many cultural things available - we loved it when Colin was in school there and then, later, when he and Mailing lived there. I am absolutely loving the cooler mornings. The air is so fresh. Glad you could save the begonia - very pretty.

  2. I am enjoying looking for signs of fall, too. So far it's mainly the change in light. What I'd really like to see is some signs of rain! NJ declared a severe drought yesterday, and rivers and reservoirs are very low. I'm not sure what fall leaves will look like with no rain.

  5. Such a sweet project bag. Even sweeter since your sister made it. The begonia looks quite happy now. Hardy little plant isn't it. Can't believe you are already getting leaves changing colors. But fall can not come soon enough for me either.

  6. We just noticed that the colors here are starting to change, too. And we picked our first two orange pumpkins yesterday! The rest are still dk green.

  7. The begonia is so pretty and delicate. Glad it survived.

I saw a few oak leaves coming down on my walk this afternoon. Sadly, it is probably not because fall is here, but because the rain is not. Hoping for some rain on Sunday.

  8. I wonder if the signs of Fall are really signs of drought. We are in a bad drought right now and all the bushes and plants look like it is the end of September. It is almost 90 degrees here today though,
so definitely not Autumn weather. I love that the deer allows you to approach to a point. You knitting is looking good. Have a great week.

  9. That museum looks one we would enjoy and brings to mind the natural history Smithsonian that we saw when we were in Washington D.C. last summer, except it was super crowded the day we were there. I love the begonia and the signs of coming fall that you are seeing. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

  10. I love your knitting bag. I have not noticed any trees changing colour but I do love that when it comes. That turtle skeleton is amazing!

  11. The begonia is very sweet. I'm glad it has survived. Changing light, cooler mornings, and a few yellow linden trees mean that the season is changing. Although I agree with Bonny, the falling leaves might have to do with the dry winter and summer. How nice that you are able to explore Pittsburgh and that the yarn in your sock project feels so nice in your hands.

  12. That begonia is both stunning AND a testament to holding on. Envy you those chilly mornings; we've barely been below 70 in weeks! There are most definitely leaves on the ground, but I know they're signs of dry/heat, not fall. The hydrangeas, though, started to shade pink, and that tells me cooler weather will be coming!

  13. well ugh, Karen, I typed a comment, and it disappeared. I'm envying your cooler temps and seeing first signs of fall with the pinked up edges of the hydrangea.
