Happenings
Good morning! How are you and are you experiencing the hot hot hot weather? Goodness it is hot here and I am ever so grateful to have AC to hide in. I've been busy this week helping with the grandchildren. Even though I am busy I finished a few books.
The first one is Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. I picked this book up on a whim and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've reserved the next in the series on Libby. Supposedly that will be available in 11 weeks. I can wait.
I also finished The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. I enjoyed the content of the book but I really didn't care for her writing style. I know this book is popular among creative people and I can see why. But the book was not for me. I did finish it though.
Yesterday I started reading The Great Gatsby which I have never read. It was not required when I was in high school and I thought I should read it. I picked up a used copy somewhere a few years ago and I have delightful notes scribbled in the margins by a high school girl. Let's see if her notes shed light on the plot and meaning.
Did you have to read The Great Gatsby in high school? Did you like it?
It looks like several children have been having fun there. Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteThis heat... oof! I am so thankful we have AC!
ReplyDeleteYes...the heat is here, too. I just came in from spending about 20 minutes in one of my flower beds, as it was only 68 degrees when I went outside. But I'm now done outside for the day. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't remember having to read The Great Gatsby in high school. I'll be looking forward to hearing what you think of it when you finish.
And that last picture of yours! Oh, be still my heart! It brings back so many sweet memories.
Yes, the heat is here! Thankfully I enjoy it. I did read The Great Gatsby but not in High School... I did not really enjoy it. Looks like you have been having fun with the Grands! :) Hope you get some rest time in this week and you stay cool.
ReplyDeleteWe are HOT too. But no real humidity so it's not horrid, yet. Horrid starts next month lol. Being inside and reading is a great way to spend super hot days. The Great Gatsby was not required by my high school. We had to read The Odyssey by Homer.
ReplyDeleteWe did not read the Great Gatsby. I did try to read it as an adult and couldn't get into it. I think my favorite book from required high school reading was The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Alan Poe. Either that one or a play we read called On Borrowed Time. I reread both as an adult and enjoyed them just as much.
ReplyDeleteTOYS! Hot here, too, and I'm so grateful for the A/C and ceiling fans in almost all our rooms. I did read Gatsby in high school, college, and again (more than once!) as an adult. I also loved the movies - Robert Redford nailed Jay Gatsby and Baz Luhrmann nailed "the vibe" (seriously, that movie is fun to watch).
ReplyDeleteI have read and taught The Great Gatsby many times to my 11th grade classes. I read it for the first time in high school. I think the 1970s version of the movie with young and hunky Robert Redford is much truer to the book than the Leonardo DiCaprio version. I hope you enjoy the book. It's an interesting read with a lot to say about materialism and the "American dream." We had a cool weekend here, but the summer heat will be returning soon. Have a good week. See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some little people and their grandparents have a good time together. We had a stretch of hot hot days and I too hid indoors. I tried to walk a little in the morning but didn't get very far. Today although humid was cooler. I read The Great Gatsby after I saw the Robert Redford movie version. I was too young to think much about the message of the novel. Stay cool. Your deck flowers are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI read Gatsby in college as part of a class on Fitzgerald. I liked it but was really caught by the whole background of Fitzgerald and the other writers in his world.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read these. I didn't have to read The Great Gatsby. We mostly read Edgar Allan Poe.
ReplyDeleteI did not have to read The Great Gatsby in school. I did read it last year on my own and thoroughly enjoyed it.
