Weekends (NYC)

Image
How was your weekend?  My weekend was stuffed with walking!  We went to NYC for the day on a bus.  I'm not sure I'd do a bus again, but hey we got to NYC and back so there is that! We arrived in the city near Macy's Department store around 9:30 am and left around 8 pm.  We focused on walking the High Line, Chelsea and Greenwich Village.  It was bitterly windy and cold for most of the morning but that didn't stop us.  We had great fun until around 5 pm when our bodies betrayed us from all the walking.  We walked 10 miles yesterday (crazy!!).  I'm sore from head to toe today.  Sadly, whenever I over do it my joints go wacko---it's a RA thing.  After today's rest, I will be back to normal. I've linked websites the best I could to what we saw or did with the photos below.   highline Eduardo Kobra mural Dorothy Iannone mural Another Eduardo Kobra mural chelsea market Osgemeos hip hop mural E.A.K. Weekends

My weekend is still going strong - I am recovering from a whirlwind speedy visit to London Ontario to see my in laws.  Lucky for us our daughter and son in law came with us.  We left on Saturday morning, trying to make good driving time so we could stop and show our son in law Niagara Falls (Canada side).  I remembered to take photos! There were a ton of people there, well there is always a crowd.  The first time I saw the Falls was on our Honeymoon almost 31 years ago.  Time flies and all that good stuff. We walked around, stretched out our achy car legs.  Then proceeded to London Ontario.  I did not take photos there.  Sorry!  Sunday was stuffed with driving around doing all the things we would ordinarily do over a three day stay crammed into a one day stay. Today we drove back home and I'm doing the laundry.  We had a great time but traveling tires me out so I'll be singing the praises of being home sweet home once more.  How was your weekend?

Cape Cod Trip

Image
On Tuesday, we drove up to Cambridge to drop off our son for his three month internship with Harvard University and what a whirlwind trip that turned out to be.  While in the Harvard Book Store, I received an automatic alert to inform me that my electricity at home was out due to severe storm damage.  Thus began the worry/anxiety state of mind.   We moved him into his sublet, met his one roommate out of two roommates then went to shop and eat at Harvard Square.  The rain arrived shortly after we did and gosh!  The water just ran down the streets - we were soaking wet with umbrellas. Sadly, I dedicated a space in my brain to worry about my cat who was without electricity (I had a friend checking on her and feeding her every day) and my refrigerator and freezer foods.  I know, I know, I'm not in control.  Worriers can't let go. I was so PATIENT while he shopped in this store Around 6:30 p.m. we left Cambridge and our son to drive down to Cape C

Knitting on Vacation

As promised, I'm sharing some photos I snapped on my Cape May vacation from the Nikon camera.  I find I like the portability of my iphone but you cannot compare those photos with the Nikon.  I carried the big camera at least one during the day. My husband and son had the epic paddle ball volley on the beach - 402 times, never to be beaten the rest of the vacation.  I am the one who sits and watches.  Staying out of the sun under the umbrella, I read my book or people watch.  The old people aren't as old as they appeared when I was in my thirties.  I hope as I age I can walk briskly on the beach like them - and look healthy. We stayed at the Victorian Lace Inn  and I adored their porch.  I spent many hours sitting and knitting (and sheltering from the sun).  My next house will have a porch - it must!  I have a patio and it's not the same. I added inches to the dress length and I'm close to the edging linen stitch detail.  All that's left i

The Big City

On Monday we left with our son to spend two nights in New York City.  Last year we visited in March and that time it was 70 degrees.  This time we weren't so lucky with summer time temperatures.  We still had lots of fun. I know some of you live near NYC and I wish I could have set up some visits, but our schedule was jam-packed from the morning until the evening!  One day I'll be there with some blocks of time to spare to making blog friends into real in life friends. On our first full Monday, my fitbit  clocked over 20,000 steps :)  I'm telling you - crazy!!  I'm thrilled I was well enough to do that amount of walking.  The next day I had only 13,000 because I was too tired and my body was sore. We walked all over Central Park and I remembered to take lots of photos.  A park information worker gave us a lovely walkabout trail at the lower half of Central Park.  She was quite helpful! Monday night, we went to the Kinky Boots musical and was thorough

Orchids at the Conservatory

Image
This past Saturday I went to the Phipps Conservatory  in Pittsburgh with my family.  Both my sister and I carried around our "big" cameras and had lots of fun taking photos.  I'm thoroughly enjoying my new lens.   I was thrilled to see many other photographers toting their cameras and yes, I did peek at what camera they owned and their lenses.  I might have lens envy and some ideas for future Christmas presents. We had a fantastic time and went through the Orchid room twice!  My favorite though was the bonsai displays.  I would guess that working in a conservatory would be quite relaxing.  The atmosphere is gentle and soothing.  I love the water features and the sound of trickling, oh - they also played the cricket chirping through the speaker system.  My sister bought two little orchids in the gift store because she is fantastic at keeping them alive and blooming!  Not me...my talents are in wool.  I'm okay with that.
